News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

DS9 was still using the TNG uniforms for non-DS9 staff in 2372, which was a year after Generations.

the last appearance of the TNG uniform is in 2374 (Tears of the Prophets). I cosider them Type A which ran parallel with the DS9/Voyager Type B, which was replaced with the First Contact Type B. The TNG type A was replaced by the Lower Decks Type A uniform.

reminds me that the flashback with Admiral Buenamigo showing Rutherford's initial bionic implant should've had Buenamigo in the DS9 jumpsuit or the FC uniform.

The DS9 jumpsuit was only used on DS9 until Generations/Voyager.

You see this in DS9, the only Starfleet personnel wearing it are on DS9, whenever there's a visiting ship they wear the TNG uniform.

When Sisko first arrives on DS9 in Emissary he's wearing the TNG uniform. Later when he's reassigned to earth during the Layton episodes he switches back into the TNG uniform.

DS9 was the first series to do the unique uniform for the assignment thing that all the series seem to be doing now.

The show is going to go with whatever looks cool and/or easier to animate regardless of whether or not it fits a fan's head canon.

Perhaps the show is poking fun at all the different uniforms existing within the same time period?

We have the Voyager/DS9 uniforms, the STO uniforms, and the FC uniforms.

There's an STO uniform!!??

Ah, yeah that's the racing outfit from the Voyager episode when they have a race for some reason. I can't remember why..

(You can get it in STO ofc)

Isn't that just the same uniform that they already wore on Voyager for the racing episode?
That's what I assumed Harry was wearing in that LDS pic above.

I thought that was just a Tom/B'Elanna thing?

I didn't know Harry was in it too.

That's where I first saw the uniform. I figured that's where they got it.

Harry was set to be Tom's co-pilot before B'Elanna gave him the boot.

Another thing about Voyager that's always driven me to distraction.

They're supposed to be finding their way home, yet they keep making these ludicrous side trips. :shifty:

Well in theory it does make sense that they would need to get things like supplies and make deals with alien governments to pass through their territory. I am not sure if that justifies the exploring stuff but what can you do. Starfleet is going to Starfleet.

The DS9 uniform was supposed to be a sort of "rugged" or utility type uniform.

I don't think it's impossible the Lower Decks uniforms could have been in service around that time as well.

Nothing is worse than the Protostar uniforms though.

I assumed it was from "DRIVE". Never played Online, so I didn't know the outfit was adopted there.

There's no issue with the DS9 uniforms dating from earlier. I presume they were introduced around the time the TNG S3 uniforms were, replacing the overalls some engineering staff wore in early TNG.

Possibly, although we stop seeing the overalls and don't see the DS9 uniforms until Generations. I don't see any reason why the DS9-style uniforms couldn't exist around the time of the S3 TNG uniforms rolling out though just in general.

I've generally headcanoned that at least in the earlier period, pre-Generations, the uniforms were two different divisions of Starfleet. We know there is an "Exploratory Corps", which I assume would be where the E-D is assigned. DS9 may be a different division and received different uniforms, sort of like how the Lower Decks utility ships are clearly a different division as well. On a side note, I also think Voyager wasn't Exploratory Corps, but was something more related to DS9, given their mission was to go hunt criminals in the badlands rather than... exploring.

OR... it's just really more simple and Starfleet just kind of changes up uniforms every so often, and there was a period of time where were transitioning out from the S3 TNG uniforms to the DS9 uniforms and had some different regulations on their use and for a bit anyway, the TNG-style were considered to be more formal.
