Spoilers Canon, Continuity, and Pike's Accident

But during that whole scene in TOS Chapel looks totally surprised. She doesn't seem to even know Tpring existed. All during TOS chapel or Spock never give any indication they were previous lovers. They act at times like they hardly know each other.
She doesn't say a word. Her reaction could very well be "That bitch!!"

Their relationship cools in SNW season 2 with Chapel being very distant on purpose. We'll soon see if the cliffhanger changes that.

Yeah thats another thing. The gorn that spock fought was much larger and way faster and dagerous than the slow poke Gorn Kirk fought. Hard to believe they were even from the sane species.
Im sure on paper the Gorn in TOS was faster and more dangerous than what we got on screen. Based on we saw he shouldn’t have been a challenge for Kirk. The folks in charge back then would have loved a more flexible costume.

At least 9 years had passed and they explained the refit to the enterprise. So we all know why things looked different.
9 years? And where was that stated? How do we know? There is zero evidence of this beyond fan assumption.

Have you met humans? Or are we all Lebron James?

9 actual years passed and everyone looks about a decade older.
The only data about the passage of time is Kirk saying it's been two and a half years since he was a captain.
KIRK: Mister Scott, there's an alien object with unbelievable destructive power less than three days away from this planet. ...The only starship in interception range is the Enterprise. Ready, or not, she launches in twelve hours.
SCOTT: The crew hasn't had near enough transition time with all the new equipment. And the engines are not yet tested at warp power. And an untried Captain.
KIRK: Two and a half years as Chief of Starfleet Operations may have made me a stale but I wouldn't exactly consider myself untried. They gave her back to me, Scotty.
SCOTT: Gave her back, sir? I doubt it was that easy with Nogura.

I just prefer to go with the actual time that had psssed since the series. People usually dont look thst much older after two and a half years. Kirk w as a young captain in tos. Hes clearly middle aged in tmp. Mccoy and Scotty both definitely look much older.

Not allowed. If the Movie says “two and a half years” then it’s two and a half years! Anything else is madness! ;)

Which tells us...nothing.

Assumption is fine but it is not in the text of the film. People can age for many different reasons too. Living in the desert, being president of the United States, and being in space all impact aging.

Link on studies here and here for space travel specifically.

Indeed. No thinking is allowed and everything must be taken as literally spoken.

It doesn't really matter how long the gap between TOS and TMP is. The Enterprise could've returned home after their five year mission on the fringes of Federation space to find that people on Earth had been wearing TMP uniforms for years. It needs to be at least couple of years later to fit Kirk's dialogue and give them time to refit the ship, but it could've been longer.

Also the ship being different is an important part of the plot. McCoy even complains that sick bay is like a computer center now, implying that it didn't have so many blinky lights before. There's nothing about TMP that tries to reshape TOS, you can even see the old version of the ship on the wall.
