Yeah, me too. Pelia is cool, I got no beef with her. Not even her funny accent.

I do have issues with there being a singular "Lanthanite accent" though. Surely Lanthanites have a diversity of accents, just like humans do?

That is such a weird thing. Like when they go back to 21st-century Earth and they find Pelia, she seems to have no idea about spaceships or aliens. Like at all.
I'm really thinking that Lanthanites are supposed to be Earth-native, or mutant humans.

I'm not certain, but it seems like they want or maybe originally intended for Pelia to be the same type of mutant that Flint (Requiem for Methusaleh) was. As if there's a very rare strain of human, or a near-human species of quasi-immortals, that's lived among us for so long.

But the fact that you can tell one from their accent means two things:
1. The accent must be strongly present in most or all of them
2. The accent must be exclusive to them

But Carol Kane is just doing her standard "Jewish Dracula" voice. So what's the implication there?

Love Carol Kane as an actress and I think it was an inspired choice to cast her on Strange New Worlds. Both she and her character bring novelty to the show.

The oddness of the Lanthanites brings an element of unpredictability that should be fun to play around with in a sci-fi setting. It was used to great effect in Tomorrow And Tomorrow And Tomorrow for instance, which I thought was the best Star Trek episode in ages. She gave off a similar vibe to Guinan in Time's Arrow and Yesterday's Enterprise, which I'm sure is precisely what they were going for.

I don't like this character. I just fiund her annoying. I have no experience with the actress before Discover but she reminds me of a Ferengi without makeup. She reminds me of Ishka. she has that nonsense vibe.

I admit after season two I’m kind of meh on Pelia and Carol Kane. There’s just something a little off about her portrayal and while the idea of a centuries old character is interesting on paper, they never really did anything super worthwhile with it. Then there’s Kane’s line delivery, which always seems like she’s struggling hard to get out each single piece of dialog. I don’t really mind her either, but let’s just say I wouldn’t be sad to see her being written out at some point. Do we know if she’ll be in the third season yet?

Oh, I do remember Carol Kane from previous roles — found her hilarious in the classic “Scrooged” with Bill Murray, for example — but it didn’t seem like she struggled with getting out lines back then as she does now. This is not meant as a slight against her, I’m sure she’s a cool person. I just find her performance a little odd on Strange New Worlds. And again, I don't really mind her either, considering how little she was in the season, too.

I love the character, but I'm irritated that they invented yet another entire species just because they wanted to something slightly different. She seems identical to an El-Aurian, and it would've made far more sense to just say that a group of them settled on Earth centuries ago for whatever reason. Fleeing persecution, or just dropped there by alien abduction gone wrong, anything could've worked. Part of why "Star Trek's" alien races tend to be so one-dimensional is that anytime they want to do anything different, they just invent an entire new species, instead of allowing the ones they have to just be diverse.
