College Football 2024

Disagree. It's like basketball - everybody deserves a shot if they win all their games whether they're ETSU or Ohio State. If a grand old titan goes down because they got complacent or the little fish was just hungrier, well... they'll be back next year.
That is where you are wrong. basketball has always been a game t where even an under talented, overmatched team can win if they get hot while the other team shoots cold. But the reason the NCAA tourney is single elimination is because the NBA model would account for that and eliminate all the sweet hearts and a great deal of what makes March Madness fun. I love March Madness but it is the single worst way to determine a basketball champion ever invented.

Football doesn’t even have that level of parity. The top 5 teams at any given time will wipe the floor with with anyone outside the top 10. Teams like Liberty and Memphis play bullshit schedules and get a free pass? There is ZERO fairness in that. If they want to be in the playoffs schedule for it. And that includes teams like ND who secured a spot this weekend by beating TAMU (the only one they play all season).

It is an absolute insult to fairness and every team that plays a legit schedule to allow clever athletic directors to schedule their way to the playoffs. Basketball is also a stat and numbers based selected system, football is not.

They shouldn’t have created two super conferences, then.

They were handing out ny6 spots to Jerry Falwell u before super conferences happened. Basketball heavily weights schedule and until football does that these autobids are bullshit.

If they try to shut other conferences out of the playoff, I imagine both the courts and Congress would become very involved. You want the money, got to take the risk of getting knocked off by lesser competition in the playoff.

Just like in the NFL.

It is not like basketball at all. NCAA selections are heavily dependent on your SCHEDULE and performance against good competition. Basketball evaluates good wins, good losses, bad wins and bad losses. It’s not like football at all

I’m not saying shut them out. I’m saying if you want in SCHEDULE for it.

Isn’t that the problem? As these two conferences get bigger, there is less room on their schedules for lesser competition.

Btw I hate trying type on an iPad but am too lazy to bring up the laptop so forgive the typos and weird autocorrects.

In an age of 12-team playoffs if you win all your games, you deserve the chance to play for the championship, period. If Liberty and Memphis don't belong, they'll be quickly knocked out. If the big boys don't like it, they can form a new division.

And you know Notre Dame plays Florida State and Southern Cal, right? Sure FSU turns out to be hot garbage but that should have been legitimate competition, and SoCal just knocked off LSU. Georgia Tech may be better than expected as well from their ACC-aligned schedule.

As if Florida or Ohio State are going to risk scheduling a "lesser" school that might have a chance to really upset them. Remember how Alabama-Birmingham's football program got shut down because they were becoming a danger to Tuscaloosa? App State beating Michigan is so memorable because it's so rare, and I want to see stuff like that in a playoff.

When the BCS truly weighted SOS people scheduled for it. Right now we are playing cupcakes because we can. Put pressure to bear on us and games like UTC and N Colorodo become games against UCF, Liberty and Memphis. We used to play Memphis regularly so did Ole Miss, Miss St and Vandy.

You think Memphis and Liberty can’t find a quality opponent? They can.

There is simply nothing to gain scheduling someone like Colorado. Besides, schedules are made years in advance.

Weight schedules just like basketball. Schedules will change. They changed when the committee made clear they didn’t care who you played as long as you looked pretty. They can change back.

You don’t punish a school like Liberty for having Ole Miss on the schedule if Ole Miss sucks. You do punish them if they scheduled no one at all.

That's fine. But conferences winners and undefeateds should still get an automatic slot, that way the priority is still winning the conference.

TV money is driven by what’s pretty.
Hence the single biggest weekend of blowouts in SEC history. It’s not by chance we’ve all started scorin 60+. Just a few years ago, you stopped scoring at 45 no matter who you were playing.

That disadvantages good conferences. If Vanderbilt is better than Liberty Vanderbilt should get the spot despite being at the bottom of their conference.

Not saying it is right, just that it is what it is.
