Hey Sports Fans!

Time to start our yearly NCAA Football discussion.

Lots of movement, some new rules. The Big Ten is now…what… the Big 16?

Come get your Saturday fix, and as always…Go Trojans!

So this thread is going to be me and 2 cynics?

Well, I love college football. My family has had season tickets to USC games since before I was born. I started going to games when I was 6. I still go to at least one game a year (this year it will be Penn State).

I try to remain in blissful denial about the issues surrounding the game, and just enjoy it.

It honestly just doesn’t feel the same. I applaud the players being able to cash in for what they put their bodies through. But, between that and coaching salaries, it is just a dreary counterpart to the NFL. Where money drives each and every decision.

I mean, California in the ACC…

For a very long time, Atlanta and New Orleans were in the NFC West.

I just focus on the games. The college atmosphere can’t be beat.

Sorry, been busy!
The first game of the season is starting. FSU vs. GT in Dublin, Ireland.
And such a wonderful game it was, kicking the new season into chaos right off the bat! As a GT alum, I really wasn't expecting us to win, especially since we're still reeling from the effects of that idiot G**** C******. I really have no clue how the rest of season will play out, I'm just along for the ride! :D

I've heard some sports radio hosts here in Seattle saying that the UW Huskies travel schedule is going to be brutal this year as the majority of their games are going to be on the East Coast thanks to the University of Washington joining the Big Ten. Only two teams from the East Coast will be playing at Husky Stadium.
Edit to add.
I wonder how ex-Husky coach Kalen DeBoer is going to do in his first year as Alabama new head football coach, and how much leeway the fans and alumni are going to give him.

Yeah I worry about the travel too. Especially to snowy places.

Try being stanford or cal. They are now ACC teams. That will never not be weird.

I really don't think the large footprint conference are sustainable. You've got the cost of travel, the new NIL costs, plus the extra time away from classes.

Everything else that isn't football or basketball is suffering too. At GT, the athletic department has had to cut everyone's budget in order to sustain the NIL. In my day in the '90s, I traveled with the Tech band to every away game. This year, aside from the already paid for Ireland trip and uga, they had to cut out traveling to any away game. I really don't know how smaller sports are going to survive.

I think we're going to see some backtracking on these super conferences, probably sooner than later.

Watching the North Dakota/Colorado highlights. So, in college, receivers are allowed to push off? The Colorado receivers aren’t even trying to hide it.

I'm a huge cynic of the direction the college game has gone, and a much bigger fan of the NFL (if not the game environment). But I'm a devout anti-SEC Tennessee fan, so I'm excited to see what Heupel can do in Year 3. I like Kalen DeBoer but I can only hope he completely fails at Alabama, it's time for them to go back into the wilderness.

I hope so. It wasn't just the tradition, but these are student athletes. What they gain in some monitization, they've lost in terms of time of travel and just being yanked around by TV contracts and sports betting. Also, like you mentioned, all the other sports that isn't Football are suffering (I could even see College Basketball suffering somewhat because the reason for the conference realignment was because of Football). We're living in a brand new world and it's probably to the students detriment.

Also, the sports betting aspect has impacted my enjoyment of sports some. I still watch, and I understand it's big money, but I long for a day in this streaming environment where we can have a sports-bet free option. I don't need to know the betting odds of a game or quarter or even play.
