Money is a powerful thing? The first game of the season is starting. FSU vs. GT in Dublin, Ireland.
How is Notre Dame not in this game?
So this thread is going to be me and 2 cynics?
Well, I love college football. My family has had season tickets to USC games since before I was born. I started going to games when I was 6. I still go to at least one game a year (this year it will be Penn State).
I try to remain in blissful denial about the issues surrounding the game, and just enjoy it.
It honestly just doesn’t feel the same. I applaud the players being able to cash in for what they put their bodies through. But, between that and coaching salaries, it is just a dreary counterpart to the NFL. Where money drives each and every decision.
I mean, California in the ACC…
For a very long time, Atlanta and New Orleans were in the NFC West.
And, for 50 years, Cal was in the Pac 8/10/12.
Okay.
Just has, like the NFL, become a soulless money grab.
Well, thanks for stopping by and spreading your unique brand of cheer.
Sorry, been busy!So this thread is going to be me and 2 cynics?
And such a wonderful game it was, kicking the new season into chaos right off the bat! As a GT alum, I really wasn't expecting us to win, especially since we're still reeling from the effects of that idiot G**** C******. I really have no clue how the rest of season will play out, I'm just along for the ride! The first game of the season is starting. FSU vs. GT in Dublin, Ireland.
I've heard some sports radio hosts here in Seattle saying that the UW Huskies travel schedule is going to be brutal this year as the majority of their games are going to be on the East Coast thanks to the University of Washington joining the Big Ten. Only two teams from the East Coast will be playing at Husky Stadium.

Edit to add.
I wonder how ex-Husky coach Kalen DeBoer is going to do in his first year as Alabama new head football coach, and how much leeway the fans and alumni are going to give him.
I really don't think the large footprint conference are sustainable. You've got the cost of travel, the new NIL costs, plus the extra time away from classes.
Everything else that isn't football or basketball is suffering too. At GT, the athletic department has had to cut everyone's budget in order to sustain the NIL. In my day in the '90s, I traveled with the Tech band to every away game. This year, aside from the already paid for Ireland trip and uga, they had to cut out traveling to any away game. I really don't know how smaller sports are going to survive.
I think we're going to see some backtracking on these super conferences, probably sooner than later.
