News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I can't wait for the very special episode of a young Borg cadet getting her period for the first time. We will have deep chats about becoming a woman while the Klingons are burning down the campus...

I'm suddenly wondering if menstrual blood is contaminated with nanoprobes, and if so, is it a major hazard.

But seriously, first periods seem more an age-appropriate subject for Prodigy, no? I mean, the youngest cadets are gonna be like 16, and most women have been having periods for at least three years by then.

The Borg DNA changes all of that due to the nanoprobes inside the persons blood stream.

Why? This is a show about the most advanced school in an interstellar alliance of species.

Because Starfleet Academy is supposed to be "space college" with a handful of teen prodigies. First periods is like middle-school drama. It doesn't fit that age range at all. Even Prodigy made this explicit this season, with the kiddos (some of which are canonically 17) going to "Starfleet Prep" rather than Starfleet academy.

Of course, maybe some alien species get their periods way, way later, but if they're trying for the "young adult" market here. For the most part teens don't want to watch shows that recapitulate their drama from a few years back, they like to watch slightly older characters in an aspirational sense. It takes years for nostalgia to kick in, and for tween drama to not seem "cringe."

Nah, it's sitcom material. Especially when mom is out of town and it's up to Dad to guide his daughter with the help of a kindly store employee. See also "training bra".

Three more actors announced:

"Kerrice Brooks (My Old Ass), Bella Shepard (Wolf Pack) and George Hawkins (Tell Me Everything) are set to enroll in Starfleet Academy, joining Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti in the latest chapter in the Star Trek universe."

This is the casting news that I've been waiting for, who were the cadets.

I'm liking everything about this so far.

Don't know any of them, which is exactly what I expected.

Which one will be buried under prosthetics?

Yep. They cast a bunch of young unknowns for the cadets, which is entirely to be expected, given they already cut the big paychecks on Hunter and Giametti.

Not that this means anything regarding quality, mind you. Trek shows never cast more than 1-2 well-known actors, even in the modern era. It wasnt reasonable to think they'd get Zendaya or Kit Connor or something.
