Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Y’know…. With all these positive reviews and reactions that are pouring in across the internet about this show, one wonders why Paramount/CBS ever thought it was a good idea to cancel and ship it away to Netflix it in the first place and not continue it on.

And now we’ve seen Lower Decks get prematurely canceled, rinse and repeat? Are there suits in Paramount who hate animated Trek that much, or possibly Trek in general and are chopping off the low-hanging fruit they think are most vulnerable?

None of this makes sense.

Do we have any kind of idea what kinda numbers the first season got on Paramount? If the show wasn't doing well, we can't expect Paramount to keep throwing money at it.

Had to Jerry-rig my ability to watch from Canada, but this season knocked it out for me. I wasn't that into the show when the first season aired, but this made me a fan and even improved my first season perspective. Well done.

Money talks first and foremost. Prodigy had its supporters but season 1 didn't set the Internet on fire until the illusion of scarcity popped up.

Clearly it didn't make business sense on Paramount Plus.

Is that a Lurian? Again without hair :D

Considering it was only mentioned once. I'm ok with them ignoring/forgetting it.

I’ll say it again — Prodigy may not be my favorite of the modern shows, but it has far and away the best score among them, especially the main theme.

Yeah, SNW and LD have really good title tracks but Prodigy is easily the best.

There's no way the Protostar is as small as they keep depicting it, right? The window rows and bridge window size suggest a ship that's at least 2/3 the size of the new Voyager, not the size of practically a runabout.

It looks like Prodigy Season 2 has some pretty good buzz. People who I normally agree with, people who I only partially agree with (I'll agree with them about one series but not another), and people who I normally disagree with in general all seem to be on the same page about PRO S2. That's a very good sign.

I just renewed my Netflix membership. So, I'll watch as I have time.

The only Delta Quadrant baby that could appear would be Naomi Wildman. Icheb was assigned to another ship and was killed about a year after the Attack on Mars. The other Borg children were left behind in the DQ.

I suspect the cancellation was because the toys sank without a trace.

And likely they realised it was watched by the same 40+ crowd as the rest of their Treks and not the young audience they were going for. All speculation, of course.
I suspect that was a factor, as well as just overall lower viewership. I love how people praise Prodigy now, and we see articles, but when Season 1 was first released there wasn't that much chatter. When it was being shopped around, and all the fear mongering started, then the chatter increased.

Now, it is important to note: this does not mean the show isn't good, that it isn't of quality entertainment, or that people can't enjoy it. Just that the initial reception was less than stellar.
