Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

What about having a "new episode threads" forum section, where these and other new episodes go until a month or so after the last episode of the season in question airs?

I really enjoyed Season , it has the most coherent season long arch they have written. One thing I found odd, they mention how important it is to not mess with the timeline, and then they try to change the timeline to sending Gwen to Solum to make them less Xenophobic.

I don't mind SNW but it so different than the other Trek shows that it feels like its own thing. I just wish it fitted better.
It's only different in the context of streaming Trek, which tends to be a season arc. Pre-Discovery, DS9 was the most arc-heavy Trek we had, and even then it wasn't full seasons.

Every episode of ENT Season 3 was either firmly or loosely tied to the Xindi Arc. Even "North Star" happened because the NX-01 was traveling through the Delphic Expanse looking for the Xindi weapon.

Just wanted to post this interview from Trekcore talking about Season 2. I think they tried to clear up some of the confusion with the time travel aspects (Like sending the Protostar Back and having everything go according to plan again, despite the changes in the current timeline) and they talked about the possibility of movies. If they can't get 20 episode seasons, I would love Prodigy movies.

After this season, Prodigy actually became my second favorite Star Trek series after TNG/DS9. It is definitely the best Star Trek of the streaming era.

This is a similar interview with Trekmovie and the Hagemans: https://trekmovie.com/2024/06/27/in...season-2-is-different-and-what-may-come-next/

Unfortunately, I think this quote is quite telling:
Kevin Hageman: I would guess more than doing well. We don’t know anything about season 3 yet. But what from what I see of Netflix when they do pickup shows for a season 3, which is very rare, it’s not about doing well, it has to do gangbusters.

Dan Hageman: Most things only get 2 seasons.

Kevin Hageman: I think it’s going to be a real challenge. And I think it has to be bigger than just the Star Trek audience watching it as much as they can. It’s about breaking into kids who are [not already fans
Unlikely for a season 3 on Netflix. Though they do talk again about a 90-minute movie, which is a format that would probably suit the cinematic Prodigy, which they themselves admit is best not taken into 22-minutes bites.

Such a movie would probably be (mostly) funded by Paramount rather than Netflix, I suppose. Maybe if the merger talks get the company into calmer waters. But they still have to see commercial potential in it, so doing well on Netflix is a must anyway, even if.

I’m planning on getting back to finishing the season tonight. The fact I haven’t been able to get what I’ve seen from the first 10 episodes out of my head the last couple days is a goddamn good sign.

And I say again, this was the Star Trek series that Paramount decided to cancel?!

Well, Paramount is a commercial company, if this doesn't make enough money (or doesn't attract enough young viewers/sells enough toys, depending on what their commercial strategy was) than quality is not important.

However, they were even planning or at least threatening to not even release the entire season 2 (though nearly finished at that time, with contract probably still running anyway to completely finish it), for a tax break. Luckily that Netflix prevented that, at least.
