Spoilers The Acolyte

Works for me. We don't need half the Jedi Council from Episode I in a show set 100 years earlier.
I honestly wouldn't have been mad about it. I mean how can you even tell how old a Kel Dor looks? That said, I do prefer that it's a new character, if only because it's good to get more new Kel Dors!

That's about what I assumed was the case; too much material for one episode, not quite enough for two.

Nothing too revelatory here, although right when I became fully convinced that Qimir is actually Mae's master, we discover Kelnacca was already murdered ahead of Mae and Qimir's arrival (and Qimir's entrapment). Good. I'm glad the show is playing on our expectations and immediately subverting (just like how Doctor Who just did).

(Having now caught up with the rest of the thread, it is curious how many people are even more convinced that Qimir is the master when I'm one of the few people going in the opposite direction after this episode)

Also curious how we get another single word in the episode title. While I fully expect another flashback to counter "Destiny," I'm not sure how "Day" would be similarly countered, especially since we watched both of Osha and Mae's perspectives here and I don't see much would be gained from seeing Kelnacca's murder.

Considering the tweet Mr. Adventure provided about next week's episode, it seems like we might be getting that counter right away. Makes me wonder if the show is going for a mirrored balance with these titles, i.e. two episodes with pairings, followed by single-word title for a flashback episode then a present one, and then doing the reverse (making the speculated Mae perspective flashback episode six, hopefully!).

Or maybe I'm overthinking it...

Gaaahhhh, how could they just end the episode right there?! I'm gonna be anxious all week now!
That's precisely why they ended it right at that moment! ;)

The civilian robe is an interesting detail, though I'm not sure why they would insist both Bazil and Osha wear one. Perhaps because they want it to be clear that she's officially working with the Jedi, and not just some random itinerant meknek?
That bothered me, too, and clearly Osha was not happy about it either. A weird choice for the Jedi to enforce a dress code for non-members. I'm not saying it's not unlike them to do something like that, just that it's a weird choice.

Jeki is very wise and worldly for such a young padawan. I kinda want to know her back story (I'm sure we'll get it eventually, in one medium or another!)
Jeki has been my favorite character since the beginning so I'm all for learning more about her in whatever form that takes (but preferably with Dafne Keen involved).

I suspected as much after the first two episodes, but I'm even more sure now that Mae was never the Sith's true target of recruitment, but Osha. She's had a decade of Jedi training, and bares a deep resentment towards her sister. The whole point of this exersise may have always been to get Osha to kill Mae in anger and become the new Sith Apprentice. Mae said it herself; with Osha alive her motivation for vengence is gone. But for Osha; Mae being alive if anything makes it worse, because now she has a focus for her resentment.
I've been hating the notion of Osha becoming the true Acolyte from the get go, but I won't lie: The evidence for it becomes more and more compelling...and inevitable.

You know what I find boring? People that watch shows they claim to hate, just so they can whinge about them week in, week out. If you don't like it, that's fine; Don't watch it! Nobody is forcing you to be here.
Hear, hear! Drives me nuts with every show. Any of the Star Wars shows (particularly this one, Andor, and Ahsoka), any of the Star Trek shows (although I largely avoid those forums precisely because this problem is greatly amplified there), and especially Doctor Who. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting at the moment but those are the ones that leap to mind at the moment.

Only quoting to note my excitement that we can finally embed Twitter posts! Just a shame that it's automatically in light mode though. As someone who has long since converted everything into dark mode because it's much easier on my eyes, this really pops out in a bad way.

well that was more fun than last week (I appreciate last week was important set up but I found it a tad dull) and I'm still convinced Qimir is the Master, more so in fact. Either he killed the wookie while he went off to get water, or he'd already killed him the first time he scouted the location (although that wound seemed to be smoking)

Not sure I buy Mae's about turn. If she was intent on turning herself in and reuniting with her sister why go to the trouble of travelling to that planet and meeting up with Qimir? Surely she could hand herself in to any Jedi temple on any planet?

I do like the theory that Osha will be the one who becomes the Master's apprentice.

Because she hadn't had time to think about it.

I wouldn't say I'm convinced that Qimir is the Sith, so much as I'm convinced the show wants us to suspect that he is. Whether that turns out to be the case, or if he's just a red herring remains to be seen, but since very little seems to hinge on this particular mystery, it feels like the more obvious option is the more likely.

She literally said that it occurred to her that she no longer needed to do this while she was running though the forest. Prior to that she was mostly running off adrenaline and inertia with Qimir goading her along. It took time for her to process and take stock of her options.

Well, this is the first episode that was disappointing.

With heavily-serialized limited series like this with a set amount of plot you have to convey in a given number of episodes, you run the risk of having episodes like this, where really not much happens.

This was mostly filler and table setting and much of it was bad.

Weak dialogue. Clunky plotting. Seriously, why did the Jedi need to go all the way back to Coruscant just for a meeting to decide, yup, let's go find Kelnacca, when that's exactly what Sol said they should do in episode 2? Total waste.

Add in the fact that these Jedi, led by Bald Green Lady, are behaving deplorably. So now we have, what, at least a half dozen or so assorted Jedi that are all totally cool with keeping this from the Council because they fear political blowback? That's a level of corruption and ass-covering that even the Jedi at their worst shouldn't be engaging in. And none of them seem to care. It's a really, really bad look and an issue they could have easily written around.

While Mae's heel turn was intriguing, it wasn't earned or justified. It seems like it occurred to her because she bothered to think about her situation for the first time ever and she arrived at her decision easily, without any real catalyst or change in circumstance. Just 'Hmm, maybe I should do this instead?" Pretty weak stuff.

I'm hoping that, now that we've gotten the crappy, wheel-spinning episode out of the way, the back half of the show will be much tighter. I really liked the first two episodes, please don't disappoint me!

That's not what many people do, especially after a trauma, and after struggling with being fed lies.

So, while we as audience members in the safety of our own houses can say "hmmm" not everyone has that luxury. Otherwise, I would be out of a job real quick. People rarely reflect.

I really feel like in the Clone Wars they did this and more.

The Jedi have floundered in corruption since the PT and it doesn't seem to ever get better.

Not talking about trauma, I'm talking about drama. And that requires motivation/catalysts for characters to make big changes. Otherwise they don't mean anything.

Mae's decision was almost entirely unmotivated and random.

If I ever meet Liam Neeson and he's not a snack food addict with a gambling problem I'm going to be very disappointed.

I would strongly disagree. Her attitude started to change once she knew Osha was alive, which she didn't before.

Stupid reality, ruining everything.

I read somewhere a while back that with the Marvel Disney+ series they themselves a goal of six hours for each series, so no matter how the episodes broke down, either as approximately an hour or half an hour, when you'd add everything together it came out to around 6ish hours. Maybe they're doing something similar with the Star Wars series.

I think a lot of this comes down to the fact that since this appears to be involving the Sith that means something is going to have to leave all of this covered up by then and so from a real world perspective they're trying to limit the number of people aware of what's going on so it'll be easier that it'll be easier to believe that nobody is aware of the Sith by the time or at least talking about them by the time we reach The Phantom Menace.

Here's my crazy theory ... Qimir is the Sith Apprentice. Though the Master wants to recruit Mae (and/or Osha; they knew both were alive), Qimir is going to take advantage, and kil the Master and expects to take Mae as the Apprentice.

But i guess we will find out next week???

I dunno... Qimir has been kind-of a loser dork since he was first introduced. Maybe that's his cover, though - the harmless idiot who's really a secret chess-master. Wouldn't be the first time.
Disagree. He's the only one with a clue to this point.
