What I like about the Legacy idea is more than just Captain Seven aboard the Enterprise-G. I think you got a decent cast of characters to work with also. Picard's son and Geordi's daughter,Raffi, those bridge officers and Captain Shaw who they would I think find a way to bring back to life in some fashion. Add a few new characters and maybe even one older Legacy character, like say the EMH. Also explore Q's return and have a few guest spots from Worf and Data, Riker etc. Not to mention Admiral Janeway or Admiral Tuvok.

I'm willing to give Starfleet Academy a chance. It could be great, it could be godawful. We'll have to wait and see the execution.

I'm really leery of Star Trek: Legacy as a concept because we already have "generic Star Trek" in the form of Strange New Worlds. I don't think we need two shows Trek adventures of the week at once. Even during the Berman era that didn't happen, since DS9 pivoted into a very different direction than TNG/VOY.

I'd expand SNW to be more like 20 episodes per season though. Given it's not serialized, there's no real concern with the pacing issues that have plagued Discovery and Picard, so just piling more episodes on should not really adversely affect quality.

I want a show with Captain Seven and Jack on the Enterprise-G. I don't think we need to do something with all the legacy characters evar!

I want it to be mostly new stories with these characters, with an option to have the occasional 90's Trek guest star appear from time to time. Not too often, just occasionally.

I take some issue with people griping about "nostalgia", because I think rather than just being fan service, it's there to add the emotional weight of 30 years of back stories. 100% in a Legacy show, I want to see DS9. Do it in a big way, have it be a season finale type thing, but work in a DS9 story.

One of my issues with the DSC 32nd century is the fact that it's SO far removed from anything that any references to 90's Trek don't really make much sense... and yet, they've been cramming them in at an alarming rate. Picard has been referenced in all three of the 32nd century seasons... i'm all about references but hot damn, the dude shouldn't be that important 800 years later.

I'd expand SNW to be more like 20 episodes per season though. Given it's not serialized, there's no real concern with the pacing issues that have plagued Discovery and Picard, so just piling more episodes on should not really adversely affect quality.

Obviously there are cost issues. But 20 episodes of SNW will be cheaper than 10 of SNW and 10 of another series, just due to the existence of standing sets, plus the easier logistics regarding cast and crew.

I don't think I agree that a cheap episode couldn't be done. While we don't know for sure the production costs, The Expanse was done on much lower level budgets than modern Trek and looked fine.

Right. My response was just to the idea of Star Trek: Legacy. As I said, as long as SNW is doing semi-episodic adventures of the week, there's no reason to do Legacy as an episodic show. If you're going to do episodic Trek, just expand the existing episodic series, because those kinds of stories could be easily told with any cast.

I can speak with certainty because... other, somewhat similar shows, can and have been made for less. It can't be a "have your cake and eat it too" scenario, to make it less expensive... cuts have to be made. The current producers seem to not think those cuts would be worth it.

Personally, I don't think the shows need quite the production value they have currently. I think they can use some old tricks... use more stock footage for the ship. You can use the same exterior flyby more often, it's ok. Use less expensive locations/set dressing. I don't think it would kill any us to have some more planets that look like... the forests of Ontario, Canada.

It's great that these shows do have such an incredible production value, but I do think we could be better served by bit of a drop in overall quality for a bit more quantity. There should definitely be 100% more boy bands on the show, though. Producers dropped the ball there. Maybe SFA will finally right that wrong.

That was a constant complaint about Stargate so I'm not so certain.

Regardless, I'm more amused by the 200 percent certitude that the budget can absolutely be cut.

It wouldn't really be that. Raffi,Picard's son,Geordi's daughter,Shaw, the bridge crew plus the new characters would all be either new or a continuation from season 3. Seven,EMH and the occasional guest stars would be ties to the last but it would be more of a healthy blend between the old and the new. Especially also when you consider that Shaw would not be exactly Shaw since he died and whatever means that brings the character back would be a big part of who is now.

My idea also is we have seen Starfleet explore it's galaxy. What if Starfleet decided to send ships into a unknown Universe to explore. My idea is Starfleet has negotiated with a Starfleet in a alternate universe to allow a ship exchange for exploration of this new universe provided they share information. This other Starfleet is allowed to assign one of it's officers to the ship as first officer. Kind of like how Kira was first officer on Deep Space Nine. They send over a Commander Shaw and that is how we see the sort of return of that character. This guy has sort of the same backstory only he is married to a Vulcan therapist who also comes aboard and basically has the job Troi did on TNG. Part of the fun of course is seeing how a Vulcan would do in such a job. Ships bartender is a new kind of alien we have never seen before and she sometimes helps out in engineering and has hopes of joining Starfleet someday but has to wait 20 years because of some alien custom they believe in. We also find out the Q we saw was the version of Q that operates in this alternate universe.

I think SNW has a good blend. Pike,Number One,Spock,Uhura,Chaphell,M'Benga were all characters we have seen before and also now we also Have Kirk and looks like Scotty for next season as well. But the show still feels both modern and traditional at the same time.
