Definitely. For one thing, I didn't have to be worried about an otherwise-innocent conversation being suddenly interrupted, by some very graphic picture I certainly did not sign up for. To be completely honest, I already have enough various crap in my head - that garbage heap doesn't need any more fuel.
Well, there's been a lot of good advances, for sure. I remember when I was a teenager, one webpage with even a small or medium-sized image could take at least a full hour to load. Now of course, its barely done in seconds. And you have some truly great stuff these days, like video calling (as used weekly by a few fans here), social-media places like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube...to say nothing of the spectacular retailer Amazon. So many enhancements have been offered in just the last few years, and brilliant minds are coming up with more all the time. Not bad overall, for a system originally built as a communications network for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Well, I've mostly had positive experiences with both. Occasionally, some random stranger will try to contact me on Facebook - I just block them and move on. As for Amazon, I don't recall the last time I had a truly miserable experience, and I've been a customer of theirs since 2011.
I just skimmed an article I found online, and apparently the University of Illinois did a survey last year, of 451 Amazon facilities across 42 states. They polled 1,484 current workers, and about 70% of those in the poll said the most common injury was sprains, strains or tears. Nearly half said they had moderate or severe pain in the leg, knee or foot in the last 3 months on the job. There's a lot more to the piece - you can read the whole thing at the link below.
