Strange New Worlds renewed for a fourth season

As everyone has continued to point out, shows get more expensive as they go on and there's no doubt that Paramount will pull the plug the moment they aren't turning as large a profit. And assuming the company shows interest in continuing the brand, that's why they create a newer "cheaper" show.

That's exactly why Voyager was created after The Next Generation concluded.

The TNG cast was tired and burned out from having done seven years. They wanted to get on with filming Generations.

Great, but its got 4 to 5 seasons max because the timeline.
Nah, I'd say they have 5 seasons total because Discovery = 5 seasons and now Lower Decks will have 5 seasons. That's apparently their point of diminishing returns these days. It used to be 7 seasons in TNG through VOY days.

I actually thought LD being animated might help it avoid the diminishing returns cutoff, but I guess not.

There is no logic in to assuming that SNW will have 5 seasons because Discovery and Lower Decks did. Season 3 is still to be releaed, and for all we know the audience will drop during that and season 4 and they decide to not renew for season 5. And for all we know seasons 3 and 4 will lift to show so high (it's my current favorite Star Trek, to be honest) that they will keep on going.

What I'm saying is, it's absolutely useless to say it will have x amount of seasons right now.

It's a financial logic, making it unavoidable.

And LD being finished after 5 seasons pretty much makes it a certainty for SNW. If an animated serious can't avoid the point of diminishing financial returns, a live action series definitely won't.

I love SNW. I wish it would run for longer. But I'm thrilled for what we have! And even if 5 seasons is the cap, we still have more to see that what's been already shown. That's pretty cool!

There's also that concerning trend of multiple shows getting cancelled before filming the renewed season once the studio realizes they can make more money from the tax break instead.

For me, it's enough to know they've greenlit a 4th season before they've even finished principal photography on the third.

I do hope that (assuming they maintain the excellent level of writing they've had so far), I hope they get a 5th season, but right now Paramount has committed as much as they can towards continuing production on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

It's going to be the only current Star Trek soon, until the Starfleet Academy shows up.

So what Star Trek shows are going to be shown in 2025, other than SNW season 3?

2024: DSC season 5 (final season), LDS season 5 (final season), PRO season 2 (probably final season), possibly Section 31 movie
2025: SNW season 3
2026: SFA season 1

So, only one Trek show/season/10 episodes for the entire year of 2025.

They may do more TV movies. But since nothing has been announced yet it probably won't make it to 2025. So they may indeed hold S31 until 2025.

SNW's fourth season will be produced most likely side by side with Starfleet Academy's first season.

And given this year that they produced the streaming feature film Section 31, and we're overlapping a bit with SNW's Season 3 production, they seem to continue with the paradigm of having two live action Star Trek related Productions going at the same time in Toronto Canada.

Remember that PICARD was filmed entirely in the Los Angeles area so it was completely separate from anything they were doing in their Toronto Studios.

The only branch of Star Trek P+ seem to be dropping entirely at this point is their animated branch, and if Netflix does in fact order a third season of Star Trek Prodigy, what I just said above will not be the case.

They'd almost be wise to hold Section 31 until 2025. Just to help pad out the year.
While that would make sense, I have a suspicion they'll try to get Section 31 out in 2024 so they can stick with that biannual release schedule they spoke of wanting for the streaming movies and have the second movie out in 2026 for the 60th anniversary.

The Film is effectively like doing two episodes - so yeah, one would think they could have the Post Production for it completed in time to stream it in the Oct - Dec 2024 timeframe.
