I called this episode boring last night, but to be honest I wasn't entirely focused on it that much and I missed the dominion war reference. I think I'm going to make some time to see it again this weekend and give more thoughts on in. I do remember how the last scene had Mol as one of the Trill Gaurdians and that made me role my eyes considering the scene prior they were talking about Trill security. I also remember Raynar going all Jellico on the crew which was amusing, especially with the Payoff at the end. I could take or leave Adira and Gray's relationship, and I must of missed the stuff with the Starship Trooper creatures. Maybe 5 might have been a little harsh, but it gives some room to change my opinion when I'm more focused on it.

Weren't the Tzenkethi originally created because DS9 wanted to use the K'Zinthi, but felt they couldn't?

Amusing, since Riker mentioned the K'Zinthi in Picard. So both canonically exist.

They're close enough that you could handwave it away. Like Kling and Qonos.
Or Peking and Beijing. Just a translation choice.

I'm assuming they're two distinct things at this point. Even the writer of The Adversary said he didn't actually imagine them as Kzinti.

And yeah, there's a chance we won't see them next week. They'll basically say they got access and after that the crew go to the planet, and the plot won't involve Tzenkethi at all.

I'm gonna speculate that it's T'Rina who hired them, and Saru's gonna be in a pickle.
What gives you that idea?

I really loved T'Rina saying she doesn't need anyone to protect her. She's tougher than she seems. Saru is going to have to learn a lot about relationships to be married to her. They are cuter than bunnies as a couple though.

Cruz was obviously having a blast and he did a great job.

Flying cloaking giant bugs with breath weapons? Nightmare fuel to me. Nice work having them just protecting their nests, if a bit predictable.

I'm glad Adira and Grey broke up. I think Adira is a better character without him at this point and they're obviously growing in different directions.

Moll, you sneaky wench! If you can't get all the clues, follow the person who can.

Overall, a good episode, but not as good as the first two.

I was a bit surprised Culbert didn't have some ethical concerns about some of Jinaal's behavior but I suppose he got to understand why while joined. I also wonder if Culbert got to sense who the scientists Jinaal wouldn't name. I'm betting at least one of them were Cardassian who didn't give a damn about what their people were doing at the time...

It does ... until it doesn't.

There were plenty of crewmen that Kirk and Picard knew only vaguely, if at all.
Yeah, needs of the plot. But we rarely see enlisted crewmen in prominent roles and O'Brien is the only non-comm of any significance. Maybe I'm forgetting some DS9, but he's rarely doing NCO stuff, he's doing what Scotty, Geordie and Torres do. Teching the tech.

The Discovery writers really need a canon guru.

Because literally everything they had Stamets list was stuff Genesis was proven to be capable of doing. And that turns what the writers clearly want to be a serious storyline into a giant joke on the Discovery crew.

Regarding Rayner combing through the data while Zora is working on it...

I don't think it is a waste of time for him to be doing that, for two reasons.

First, he has dealt with them before and knows how they think. He has an insight about them that Zora lacks by simple virtue of him encountering them more.

Second, at the end of the day, Zora is still a machine. It doesn't have emotion nor can it predict behavior. Rayner likely prefers an analysis done by a real person, and honestly in this case, I completely agree.

Except it had nothing to do with finding Moll and L'ak

It feels funny that they had to actively write out Nilsson, but I'm also sure most people don't remember who she was.

Really? And how often has the Genesis device been used?
Narrative wise it's appeared four times.

The first in it's original movie, the second in the sequel movie, the third in Picard Season 3, and the fourth in Lower Decks.

In universe wise it's been used three times that we know of.

The Genesis Cave, the Genesis Planet, and the Lower Decks event.

The qualifier of "that we know of" is important however given that the Ferengi had them available for sale.

So, limited knowledge of its actual efficacy.

The Ferengi are not known for their innovative scientific practices or concern with safety.. So, I would put limited stock in its efficacy, as well as the fact that it has only been used 3 times does not actually prove it can be used widely or safely.

A reminder that we’re continuing our Trek/sci-fi/everything zoom discussions this Saturday, from 9-11 PM BST (that’s 4-6 PM EDT in the US), link posted in the thread in the General Trek forum at the time of the event. All are welcome, nothing is recorded, and you can come and go as you please. It’s a pretty good mix of people from many parts of the world with diverse opinions. Come check it out!
