I suppose they do meet 99 strangers until they meet 1 relative, and with only so few episodes a season, we don't see all those other, less meaningful meetings :D

Cut out the boring. I'm all for it.
I'm curious what double standard that is.
If they had Admiral Vance threaten to speak Burnham, I'd critique that too. Doesn't matter that Kirk did it in TOS.
Not sure what this is saying.

The double standard is when past Trek did it it's fine. Discovery does it and it's a problem.

Not surprising since it's the connection between humanoid species that is the big topic here.
Was it small universe syndrome that humans, Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians were all searching for the same clues and then met all together in The Chase? Nope, it was part of the story.
Riiiiight. It just logically had to be two home worlds for main characters and the daughter of his mentor. :wtf:

But it's alright in and of itself I suppose. I just hope we don't get mired down in the personal melodrama.

Nope. I suppose you're trying to be funny. But it's not working.

Yeah, small universe syndrome is a thing in Trek and elsewhere but this was a massive dose. Not just knowing Moll but also Betazed then Trill.
Hardly massive. It's rather ordinary. In fact it pales in comparison to something like TWOK. Which piles a whole series of small universe connections. But personal connections help drive stories and characters. And on the whole most people can relate to them. I know pointing out these things make us seem so much more clever than the writers, but do they really?

I'm not sure why you think you're more clever than Trek writers?

The Wrath of Khan example is a good one too.

It appears that you've missed where I've said that it has not detracted from my enjoyment of Discovery thus far. It was just something I noted that had me rolling my eyes a bit. Nothing wrong it that.

The episode itself was fine and, as I said in my review, a fun romp. That doesn't mean there won't be little nits here and there and I'll certainly feel free to point them out as I see them.

The music this season is still Jeff Russo

but it feels different. Some of the tracks have felt very TOS movie style
This was the first time I actually enjoyed Jeff Russo's episodic scores! I almost wonder if he got a bit of a kick from the producers after he wasn't asked to return for PIC S3 and the (actually warranted) warm reaction to Barton & Weidmann's work to get him to do something that wasn't just sonic wallpaper.

Uh? Was that your take away?

That seems a bit rude and unwarrented.
I'm replying in kind. Glad you caught on.

I posted an honest review where I mostly enjoyed the first two episodes, but I point out how I had to roll my eyes at the small universe syndrome overdose in the 2nd episode. And you seem rudely fixated on that for some reason.

Yeah, I've watched Trek plenty before. Yeah, I've noticed that same syndrome before. But it still stood out to me. So what?! What's your big deal with it? And what's with your fixation on how much Trek I've watched before?!

Dang I've enjoyed these opening two episodes more than I've enjoyed Discovery for awhile but that aspect gave me pause. Thanks for being that one guy/gal who has to be a dick about something. Geez.

I don't, actually since I don't think you and I have discussed problems in other series other than modern Trek.

But, good to know
Ok, well I thought you knew! But all cool. Yeah, we've discussed a lot and, usually, respectfully. So cheers!

I've enjoyed Discovery so far this season. I hope it continues!

Usually rolling the eyes is not considered a positive.
