What games are you playing currently?

Man, I really don't know what they were thinking when renaming the series, because it's really a mouthful, both to type and say.

I'm just gonna keep calling it Yakuza. Yakuza: Ishin, Yakuza: Gaiden etc. Ironically, Japanese is easier to handle than a long ass English title for English speakers.

Yeah, which is why It's really odd that they renamed it for English audiences. I think I remember hearing that it's because it's more of a literal Japanese translation, but it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?

I think their reasoning was that there’s no yakuza in those later titles but English speakers are perfectly fine with a title not being a literal description of something or its content. It just becomes like a proper noun or surname to us once you insert a colon between Yakuza and whatever title you add. I dont know if the Japanese Devs just don’t understand that English doesn’t need or expect everything written or said to be literal or if they’re just being stereotypically on the spectrum devs that don’t get non-literal things but the change has made it far more confusing for English speakers new to the franchise, especially since you have the detective/lawyer spin-offs, yakuza: like a dragon and then a bunch of like a dragons associated with the yakuza games.

If they’d chosen to keep the Yakuza name we’d have just treated it like a brand name much the way people talk about Marvel films which can focus on any number of subjects , characters, themes and settings. But that’s just my 2 cents.

Yeah, not to mention that it had become a branding at some point, where you'd have something instantly recognisable and know what to expect out of them. I'd known about the Yakuza series for more than a decade before I got into it with Yakuza 0. Unless you have a great reason for doing so, a rebranding can create a dissociation and it can take a while to build momentum again.

I don't find it dissimilar to the HBO rebranding to MAX, as in some market it's still simply known as HBO, and the rebrand in that sense can hurt those markets.

People are really complaining about the GTA 6 trailer and a female protag? Have these people ever been to Florida or anywhere in the South East? That trailer completely captures the South as a whole and Florida more specifically. For fuck's sake it's even set to Tom Petty.

People are idiots. :D

For sure and Rockstar has done their research. People in that trailer look right and I say that as a Southerner. I'm from the Upper South *but* I've been to Florida many, many times and my older brother was born there. Watching it felt like being in a place that I know well.

On the verge of pulling the trigger on a Quest 3 VR rig, so among some of the 'fitness' games available there I will soon be making the heady pivot back to Digital Combat Simulator, and re-acquainting myself with the DCS F-14 and F/A-18. MiG drivers and LSO's beware... :ouch:

I've heard ppl who are into VR are flat out jealous of Sony's VR right now. It works with PC too although I'm not sure how much or what you need to do to ensure compatibility. It might be something to look into. I haven't tried it myself but a youtuber who is a PC-only type (as I was at the time) was singing it's praises when it came out. He thought it one of the better VR sets out and that was something he specialized in. The big issue is it's twice the price of most VR headsets.

I want to try VR so bad but I have a gaming PC that needs to get fixed and until then all my savings are going towards that.

I'll give you a few words to explain this

Redpillers
Neckbeards
Possible incels who don't like a female protagonist

All of the above

Haha. I have a question for you though... what exactly are redpillers (I know they think they're taking the red pill ala the matrix but idk what they're all about beyond being sexist, racist, conservative weirdos). IOW, what does 'red pill' mean to them?

On a completely different note.... I contacted Dell's tech support about the burn I suffered. I told them I thought I deserved some compensation/discount because of it and that I would like to purchase another alienware laptop. They forwarded the pics and details on and said I would be contacted within 1-2 business days. I'm hoping I can get a big enough discount to replace the laptop my other half puked on. The burn is severe enough that I think alienware/dell owes me that much. That said, we shall see where it goes.

Here's to hoping Dell will make things right. I really do need a new one and there's no way I can afford a full priced replacement.

I don't know fully what a redpiller is myself beyond that they think they have a license to hate women, or anything to do with women because that means "woke" or some convoluted bullshit

If they're complaining about that, that's the least of their problems ;)

I'm right near the end of The Invincible and it's great, beautiful visuals, stunning sound and music and the story is solid. It's actually a prequel to the story The Invincible by S. Lem, and that quote from the game is my favourite quote at the moment

Still haven't finished the story in GTA5. I play it and then quit for a couple weeks.
But, the trailer for GTA6 has gotten me back invested in it. Although I won't play it until it comes out for PC in 2033.

I've had that one on my wishlist. It looks like a visually stunning adventure.
