What is your comfort game? The game that is your happy place?

Everyone has one, it's like the one spot at home that is your happy place, or somewhere else that is also your happy place.

What game is your comfort game and happy place, that you always go back to?

Mine is Horizon Zero Dawn. It's my all time favourite and it's my happy place when I want to escape for a few hours or more.

Super Mario 64. And after years and years of the same levels, I now have hundreds of romhacks and mods to play! And should I go back to the original, the insane Render 96 PC version which makes the game look like the hi-res artwork on the original box. There's even Infinite Mario 64, which randomly generates new levels to play every time.

That's a fun game. Many moons ago I had a Nintendo 64 and Perfect Dark was my go to game on there, but that feels like a whole lifetime ago

Borderlands, the original game and Saints Row the Third, bough Borderlands when it came out, at that time my PC could just run it but it was really nice, love that atmosphere.
As for Saints Row the Third, never had a game before that made me laugh so hard. :D

Mario Kart 64 is my all time favorite game. Especially when I can get a 2nd player to keep the computer on it's toes. Otherwise, it's a tad easy. But I still to this day love tossing it on and running a few circuits to waste a quick hour or so. Just picked up an Analogue 3d and it is truly a game changer for the N64 games.

Have you tried the Amped Up mod? It adds tons of new tracks, and even proper 3D models of the characters. Works on original hardware (and presumably the A3D if it's patched) too

Depending on how much I need to shut off my brain, it’s gotta be Civ V, Super Mario World, or Zelda: Link’s Awakening (OG, remake is neat but not my thing.) If I absolutely had to narrow it down to one, I’m going with my boy Mario. I don’t know how many times I’ve played through to 96 exits, and over the years all three save files get completed, so I erase and do it all again.

This is going to be a good thread, I can feel it.

For me, A Link to the Past on the SNES remains not only the best Zelda game, but the single greatest game ever made. Playing it is like sliding into a hot bath after a long day, even after more than three decades. Even now, I am discovering new lore, and I love it as much as when I first played it.

Got this fired up and it is awesome. Like rediscovering MK64 all over again. Got hours into it. Thanks!

Daggerfall is still so easy to get lost in all these years later. Nothing else like it.

I really like the first two Tomb Raider games too, TR2 especially feels very comforting, despite the ludicrous number of hitscan enemies.

Of Daggefall or Tomb Raider? I've played both, in either case! Daggerfall Unity is fantastic, and TR Anniversary is pretty good, wasn't too sure about some of the story changes but a lot of the level reimaginings were superb.

I mean the recent remake where they remastered the Lara's first three games

Oh, Legacy of Atlantis, it's coming out later this year apparently - looks pretty good! Maybe a bit closer to the original than Anniversary was.

I really am undecided. I've seen the store pages for the 1 to 3 remaster and the other 4 to 6 remaster but I'm not sure if playing them again with new graphics would be worth my time. I played them back when they were current and had my fun. I'm just not sold on the idea of buying a remaster.

On the other hand if these games have QOL improvements and options that the original games did not that could possibly tempt me, maybe more along the lines of puzzle hints or options to skip if they had stuff like that I could be tempted.

Elite Dangerous right now and sometimes DCS World if I just want to fly around. VR/HOTAS, etc

On a console, Fallout 4 (PS5) and Macross 30 (PS3) are always fun to take a quick spin.
