Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Updates - first pass at the cargo pod. Which begs the question, could there be other pods?

Lights need to be added to make the glows work - I tend to do the self lighting rig at the end, but I may break habit and start it now. Yes, I have changed the banners on the pylons to be more consistent with what is known of that time.

Comments, as always, are welcome - more this afternoon!

Now that you've got some pics up with other 32C ships it would appear that removing the engineering hull neck would fit the aesthetics better. YMMV.

Other than that, very good progress :techman:

Short answer to the "neck" (or stub as I call it); no, it can't be removed.

Longer answer; the secondary hull, including the deflector, stub, and hanger bay is all one piece. The only part(s) that are separate are those that make up the cargo pod. I can reduce the height of the stub - which I have again. There are now three decks space between it and the saucer proper. Or, I can rebuild the engineering hull again.

Yes, the stub (neck) is a throw-back. But as stated this is a slightly older design. I can rebuild the engineering hull, and lower the saucer so it's remains within two-three decks of the new hull, but there is no way (currently) to just delete it.

Should I have added it in the first place? There are arguments for both yes and no. I like to think that I put some thought into these ships. Sometimes whimsey takes over, but I try and keep that under control. Let me think on it. A rebuild is possible. Desirable? LOL, I do want to get it right, and this section is not without mesh issues, so it is something I am pondering.

In terms of the current state of play -

Window bays are now built in, as are the side torpedo tubes. I have another window bay to add to the front of the secondary hull (IF, I continue with this version of it), and then of course the windows, rooms behind them, banners and other minor details before I move on to the upper section and the aft hanger bay.

Comments welcome, more tomorrow.

I've remembered why I put the "stub" on, there is a reason! It helps raise the saucer up, which means the impulse engines have clearance from the warp assembly.

Method to the madness!

I think I am going to rebuild the secondary hull, and make the hanger and stub separate parts - not separate floating parts, just separate sections. Something I'll sleep on, it's still too boxy, I need to round it off more. I have thoughts on how to do that. But yes, there will be a platform (stub, neck) or something under the saucer to raise it so I get the clearance I need for the impulse engines :-) Or maybe... I could cut a rounded section out of the secondary hull, lower the warp assembly...

I'll sleep on it.

Might be me but I'd whip out the impact wrench and start bolting down all the free floating parts.. oh and adding usefull things like pylons and the like.. seems that people in the 32th century have forgotten about stuff like that.. :wtf:;):p

One idea is to have different 32 Century modules for different ships which can all assemble to form a station that can make a big jump..

LOL, it is an interesting take on technology. but we are talking about a time that is 1000+ ahead of where we are now. I think they chose the right direction. Some of the ideas make sense (like the tricombadge) others are like, wow are you sure? But like all change, it's a look Trek wears well.

32c Starfleet/Federation Headquarters can indeed travel at warp speeds. Season 4 of DSC shows it make a jump to Earth to help rescue the planet's population from a Dark Matter Anomaly . It's also modular with the sections having there own warp drive systems. But swapping sections out? That's an interesting idea.

Just found an error on the nacelle pylons. A big error. So going to have to rebuild them, as they have been wrong since I built them. Know how it happened, and I can't believe I made such a mistake and haven't noticed until now. But there you go. Updates later, have my usual Wednesday appointment and then life and then pylons...

More later.

Updates (finally), new pylons without the error, and a rebuilt secondary hull that is more rounded out and curvaceous -

Banners need to be added to the pylons, and then back to the coal face on the secondary hull, windows, thrusters, phasers, torpedoes and misc detail to add, then on to the upper part and the hanger bay!

Comments welcome, more later :-)

Damn that is sweet. I concur with @Mage - definitely a Vengeance look and feel, at least from the angular 2H and use of negative space around the bridge in the PH. Not a bad thing at all, BTW. That design aesthetic has grown on me since its introduction in STID and it really does work here.

A fin or two, some tweaks, a self lighting rig and she's done. But that's for tomorrow. This has been a fun one, glad I changed things up with the secondary hull, works much better IMOO.

Comments and the like welcome, more tomorrow!

And that is... well not the end. I am going to sign off for a time and take a well deserved break from doing 3D stuff for a while. Not quite sailing off into the sunset yet...

Mtgn9Ps.jpg

I will be back in 2024. Until then, keep well, keep safe and see you all soon!

Have a good time off, as for the ship, as usual you did a marvelous job, although I still would whip out the impact wrench... ;)
lol, thank you!

You deserve a break buddy. You made some awesome meshes this year, and definitely some of my favorite fan designs.
Looking forward to what you're going to do in 2024. Secret wish....? A space station. :D
Thank you. The break I need, I think in hindsight I was beginning to burn out. I am unhappy with some of the ships I've built, and may well revisit them to fix some things that bug me. But that is for another time.

When I started last year, it was about restoring what I'd lost. I have exceeded that and then some. I don't just do 3D work, I write and do artwork as well. I need to make space - and time - for those passions. I have a writing buddy, so we were able to get back 100% of my written stuff. The artwork... Mixed bag. Maybe 50-60% of it I was able to get back. The rest? I accept it's gone. 3D, as you all know I wasn't so careful about backups with that back then, so I got 0% back. I did try and get in touch with the Lexington fan film group to see if they could send me a copy of the mesh I built for them... But I never heard back from them. Like a lot of fan film groups they probably ceased to be after the "Axanar Debacle". Doesn't matter I rebuilt the Odysseus and a I did a better job of her umpteenth round time (how many times did I rebuild the Ingrams from scratch in the original WIP thread? *shudder*).

I have enjoyed this thread. I don't have plans to be away for long. A space station... That's an interesting idea. The biggest ship I have built to date (size wise) is the Ranger Class - the most complex (poly-count) was the Delphis Class (that sucker came in at about 200mb, I normally come in at about 55-60mb). I use the same scale for everything I build 3D wise, so a station would be massive and complex, lol. It would be an interesting challenge. I shall ponder it.

I will say I know what I am going to work on next, 3D wise. It will be a Trek ship, a Starfleet ship (do I ever do any other when I comes to Trek? Why do I never show the Klingons or Romulans any love?), it will be over a 1,000 meters in length and more then likely a pain in the backside to build. But the challenge will be worth it. I have researched the heck out of it, and have a folder full of ref material. But that's as afar as I have gone, and am allowing myself to go at the moment.

BUT...

Break first. Lot has happened in the last 18 months. The court case, which did not go well for us, although a witness for the asshole who caused me so much pain is being done for perjury, so it's possible a re-trial could happen *sigh.* My partner became an elected government official, which was a last min decision and they flipped the seat they won. Yeah them! My ticker is doing it's usual trick of "what can fail now" (new valve is on the horizon, that will be three out of the four done). Father in law... This is going to be his last Christmas. Having lost both my parents I understand what my other half is dealing with. And a host of other things happened as well. Life happened, lol. I need to shut down for a while, process and then come back with a fresh mind and refuelled energy.

I'm sure I will be lurking around on here, so no worries. Will be back soon.

As always, more laters!

Being good and sticking to the break, but I thought I would share these; renders of study models of possible future projects -

Eisenberg Class (1212 meters long) -
Y34kRUB.jpg
Iw9ftK8.jpg

Yes, she is a BIG ship, 100+ decks, and a shape that was fun to capture even for a study. This would mark the biggest ship I have built to date.

Janeway Class (453 meters long) -
I9exuUC.jpg
wElJ9o6.jpg

Only 22 decks on this one (as per the scale rule I use), one of the smaller 32c ships.

In both cases I won't be doing one-to-one recreations, but rather tinkered rationalisations. The Eisenburg has windows in patterns that defy deck logic. And does the Janeway need to have a giant bottle opener at the back?

Then of course there is the Titan Class -
SVW2dhB.jpg
HgfTZik.jpg

A jaunt back to the 24c and the TNG era. Could be fun.

Lots to think on, comments welcome - more at some point!

In my defence, I got bored.

That happens a bit too easily for me, lol. The hyper focus side of autism can be useful at time, but also a pain in the backside at keeping the old noggin calm. Anyways -

K7WuhlP.jpg
6NNE3be.jpg

Lots of detail to build in still. Winging it mostly as I have little ref material, but what's new?

Anyway, there we go. I managed a couple of days of relaxing. I hated it, lol. This is all today, we'll see what tomorrow brings :-)

So, once more back unto the breach my friends - more later!
