I just happened to watch a couple of Frasier episodes this evening. One where Frasier, Niles and Martin are stuck on a lake, ice fishing. The other episode had Frasier 'talking down' his agent from a ledge as part of an unhinged salary negotiation. Both were side-splittingly funny even after all this time.
That trailer had none of the sparkle, it just left me cold. I think you're right @wayoung , the performances are broad. The dialogue is really broad too, totally the opposite of the sharpness seen in the early Frasier episodes.
Obviously there was a tonal shift between Cheers and Frasier, but they both worked well on their own terms. I would be fine if the tone shifts again, if they did something interesting and funny. On the basis of this trailer though, it just seems generic and tacky.

It's a talented cast too, the broadness has to be on purpose, not just inexperienced, bad actors.

I'm still going to give it a shot, but my expectations have dropped even further. I'll stick around for Lilith and Roz (assuming the show doesn't hold them back too long for that precise reason), but after that, if the show hasn't won over me...*shrug*
I'm watching but not expecting to laugh like I did at frasier, so many so funny episodes that still make me laugh. Even in the so called weaker later seasons.
Just hope the new characters are more niles, roz, bulldog, daphne etc etc, even Kenny who I liked a lot, and less daphnes family who I thought were a poor addition to the show.
Still have hope with Nicholas Lyndhurst being in it who I really like. For older shows Frasier, Goodnight Sweetheart and of course only fools are shows I'll happily rewatch and thoroughly enjoy

I didn't have much in the way of expectations to begin with - maybe cautiously optimistic? I haven't followed the development of the revival, so no clue if anyone from the previous era is involved.
But now, after watching that trailer, it's safe to say I'm pretty unenthused.
We know Lilith and Roz are each definitely appearing at least once and that Niles won't be showing up (David Hyde Pierce said no for now). I don't know if we've had a confirmation for Daphne one way or the other and I don't expect Bulldog to show up (simply because it wouldn't make much sense).
Frasier is my favorite sitcom of all time. I’ve been rewatching the series in anticipation.
The trailer looks fine to me. Having known this character for, what, 40 years? I expect it to be comfortable. Like an old friend.

It could be everyone finding their "sea legs" again. There was always a "theatrical" aspect to the acting on the original show, a bit broader than seen in other shows of that era.
That will definitely happen, the same as with Frasier with visits from Sam, Woody and of course Lilith. Trailer was ok but i missed the wit of the original show but that's to be expected with Niles/Pierce out of the picture and Martin Crane/John Mahoney dead ( both of those being terrific foils for Frasier). I'll be tuning in but i don't expect anything more than a mediocre nostalgia fest that won't capture the spirit of the original.

I'm waiting to view the whole thing before making a judgement call. Both Cheers and Fraiser changed tonally during their first eps/seasons. I read that they tried to make this show closer in tone to Cheers since he's back in Boston. So more colorful sets etc. Still optimistic for the show ..
Yeah, part of the briliance in Frasier was in the writing and its characters. I really see nothing here beyond the usual tropes.
I loved Frasier, and I'm not really much of a sitcom watcher. There was something special in the chemistry between each of the actors that made it stand out, and much of it was in the timing and delivery of the jokes. There are very few sitcoms I like, but Frasier was one of them.
Almost wonder if this would perhaps work best as a miniseries rather than a full series with a different scenario, ie Frasier visits his son for Thanksgiving, etc, hilarity ensues.

That worked pretty well for Mad About You's return...although it definitely left me wanting more. Which means it did something right!

Yeah, and see, sometimes doing something just enough to have people wanting more is just what things need. Sometimes it can result in more inspiration, and you have less of a chance to have it overstay its welcome. Like reunion events. I wish we'd have more reunion events. Of course, now with streaming services, it seems things often get stretched out, so I'm not entirely surprised they went with another full-blown series.
