We're talking about characters in their late-teens and early-20s, so it's natural that it's going to be filled with things they think is deathly serious, but we'll think is ridiculous. It's what being high school and college age is all about. I'll just ask myself, "What would I have done or thought at that age?" If it rings true when looking at it through that prism, I'll let it slide. My main concern is too much forced drama
Very true. But that makes for a shorter thread. We actually have next to no idea what we are talking about with this show. We know zilch beyond the title and time period.

Newsome is 40. A larger number than I'd usually expect to be associated with 'the young generation'.Tawny Newsome is joining the writing staff.
The young generation should be well-represented.

(This is not a criticism of Newsome, or a claim that she shouldn't be writing for the show, or anything else I can't think of right now.)
NO! Only those who have endured The Trials have any right to call themselves Star Trek Fans. And enduring The Trials is only possible for those born in the twentieth century who are at least old enough to have watched TNG in first run. This is the way. I have spoken. So say we all. It's pretty much designed to bring new fans in, which Trek desperately needs to survive.
Commandant Bennett.I just mean some seem to reach for reasons this could be bad. If it's done right, it could be a really good gateway show for the next generation of fans. Teen drama can be done well. I think a college drama, distorted through the lens of Star Trek could be a really fresh direction.
I mean, it could be bad, sure, but it could be good as well. As an optimist, I lean toward the latter in all things Star Trek related.
I think they should dedicate the first episode to Harve Bennett.![]()
I mostly hate the "no one asked for" criticism
Anyways, I'm lukewarm towards this idea but I don't think it's inherently a bad idea or destined to fail. Although I'd prefer it come right after Picard and follow up on 90s Trek
