News Star Trek Prodigy Cancelled, Season 2 to be shopped around

Supposedly it's 99% certain to find a new home. But then, Star Trek 4 was going to happen over and over until it didn't. These guys will say whatever they think will benefit them the most at that exact moment.
A part of me wants to say it's unlikely they'd have released this clip unless they were 1000% certain of the deal going through. Though another part of me realizes that in these days of streaming uncertainties and tax write-offs, I know that nothing is certain at all.

However, the existence of this clip does prove there's a better chance of seeing Prodigy season 2 than there is of ever seeing a fourth Kelvin movie.

Captain Freeman wouldn't like the Voyager-A.

She seems to have kept quiet on the Obena class though (which is utterly stupid to be in its own class of ships... it looks like a Sovereign-eized Excelsior... and that can be done by modifying EXISTING Excelsior class ships in service... aka, dematerialize needed sections of the hull and establish forcefields in a desired shape, restructure them in the matter stream into new bits and beam them into place where the forcefield is... resulting in an elongated saucer, modified secondary hull, Sovereign class nacelles, pylons and deflector dish (remade from the old ones - there should be more than enough pre-existing raw matter to work with - and if there isn't SF can just add some mor energy and/or matter to replicate extra)... and presto, you have a late 24th century Sovereign-eized Excelsior class (an intermediary upgrade prior to the 25th century Excelsior II upgrade).

I have to say I'm a tad disappointed that the VOY-A looks a bit Sovereign-eized... but in fairness, that's probably only due to the nacelles.
We'll wait until we can see the entire thing in action properly to see what they did.

TNG did kinda featurer most 'modern' classes of that era with Galaxy class style nacelles - but arguably, come FC movie and we've seen some variations in nacelles with different classes.
The Intrepid class in particular also had distinct nacelles.

I guess it would have been interesting if they gave the VOY-A same nacelles like the ones on the shuttles assigned to it.

If it's on screen it's canon, whether it can easily ignored or not.
The Gorn, as they were in TOS "Arena", are canon. So are the Gorn, as they are in SNW.

In other words, what is canon doesn't matter. It will get contradicted/reimagined/reinvented whenever TPTB see fit. Especially for super minor details like an easter egg on a console.

There is a distinction between the Hagemans (who made the claim of 99%) and the executives who claim(ed) the 4th Abrams movie will be made any day now. The Hagemans are hands-on showrunners, who also write for their own show, who support the union strikes, and who engage with the fans. I don't think we can equate the reliability of one with the reliability of the other.

While the 99% may be somewhat exagerated, it is looking quite good now. The interest in the show has increased in recent weeks (with tangible results in the form of boxset sales), they have been able to show a finished clip (something that the accountants, gunning for a complete burial of S2, may not like too much), the writer's strike increases the value of the show and Kevin Hageman explicitly claimed that talks are going on (which means there is at least interest).

Moreover, the Hagemans were also the first to signal that renewal (in the form an order for S3) was going to be problematic, well before the cuts at P+ became public. If things were still looking dire, they would probably say so in an attempt to get more support.

To be fair there's no hard-and-fast rule that a shuttle's engines have to match its mothership's. The Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E had shuttles that didn't, and the Enterprise-A's shuttles' nacelles only somewhat match. We might assume that it's a "technology generation" thing that means they often have design elements in common, but it would be somewhat wasteful to design a different type of shuttle for every single starship class.

The shuttle already appeared in S1 when they probably didn't have a final Voy-A design yet

I actually prefer the shuttle nacelles to the VOY-A Sovereign class nacelles... at this point I wish the designers gave VOY-A those shuttle based nacelles.
They are very distinct and have somewhat of an evolutionary curve vs the original VOY nacelles.

Gosh, loved the clip - really hoping S2 is picked up (and beyond!). It looks like they're going full throttle into Voyager sequel territory with this.

I was kind of hoping that the Voyager-A would be a Vesta-class. At least it's not another STO ship.

I think there IS something akin to a Lamarr class in STO... but its not entirely alike.
Prodigy at least had the better sense to NOT use STO designs (as I'm not a big fan of those), though part of the reason for this is probably because it takes place in 2385/2386 (ST: PIC was the series that took those STO designs and used them... mainly because they were convenient).

I still think the VOY-A would have looked better with those 74656-A shuttle nacelles. Would have been a lot more distinctive.

The clip looks great. Nice to see the kids again and it looks like the second season will be wildly different from the first. Would be nice to know what platform it's going to be on, though.... :vulcan:
With seemingly a bit of a time jump in the clip (they have been apart and studying for some time, it seems), I wonder if we will get to see Gwyn laying eyes on Solum for the first time, as well as setting foot on it for the first time. It could also be straight to her already on the surface, I suppose...

Turns out we agreed all along. That a write-off having taken place was speculation.
I think that speculation arose because reporters and other folks believe that because Paramount pulled Prodigy from P+ they have to be doing what Disney and others did when they decided to write off their shows.

It seems to me that Paramount feels they’ll get something for Prodigy by selling it to another party to air/stream. Paramount had to pull S1 from P+ because they want S1 to be included as part of the sale because no one would by Season 2 if their customers had to watch Season 1 on a competing service.

If Paramount is unsuccessful in finding someone to buy Prodigy, I’d say it’s highly likely they’ll just air it on P+. Depending on how long the writer/actor strike lasts, it’s entirely possible that after Discovery ends they won’t have additional Trek content ready until 2025. If that’s the case i think they’d rather show Prodigy on P+ than shelve it forever.

don't insult prodigy by comparing with that picard garbage
Well, to me, the last season of Picard was very well done, giving us the TNG sendoff that was deserved!

On the other hand, IMO, it's been misleading what was done with Prodigy. What was described as a series aimed at kids and maybe tweens has turned into a Voyager sequel, introducing the characters that kids and tweens may not know, have no familiarity with and could lose interest since it's veering away from what should be the main characters.

How does that make it less of a kids show? It's no different than the Doctor Who spinoff Sarah Jane Adventures, which was aimed at young kids but starred and brought back characters from the classic Doctor Who some of which had not been in the modern series and their last appearance in Classic Who was decades before SJA's target audience was even born.
