Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

What I always find interesting is that Buffy did an episode at each extreme of the musical spectrum, a full-on musical episode and an episode with absolutely no music at all (the one where her mom died).

The Body is one of the best and saddest episodes I've ever seen. How that episode dealt with Death (especially for a teenage drama) was heart wrenching. It became more than an episode. It was like an experience.

I wasn't part of the Fandom when it came out, but I wonder what Buffy fans thought at the time that "Once More, With Feeling" was announced. I was amazed at how much arc advancement that episode actually had. I know SNW is episodic in nature, but I'm excited for it mainly because it is different, and I like original songs. The franchise will actually do something they have never done before. If it works, we might look at this as a pivitol moment for Star Trek in 10 or 20 years from now.

I don't know how many people even heard about any announcement ahead of time. I had absolutely no idea until the 'next week on Buffy' trailer at the end of the previous week, and I was absolutely shocked, and super hyped at the same time.

It was very heavily promoted in sci fi and geek magazines at the time for months before hand. There was only a larval form of internet to find it but in the old analogue sources it was there aplenty.

Agreed. A Peter Capaldi guest appearance would be fantastic.
It would probably have to be a crossover with the Peter Cushing movies, tbh.

A famous American thespian can be hired to play ‘Doctor Who’, with this being the Timelords *actual* name, not just the TV series name.

Paramount would not want to be promoting a Disney product on their network, though if Disney were to acquire Star Trek too it would be a different story….

Jeff Goldblum for ‘Doctor Who’, anyone? Unless they want to use Joanna Lumley again? Lumley would be amazing on Strange New Worlds, they could do an episode where Lumley and Kane (Pelia) have to go off on an adventure in the TARDIS together.

Whoever said Capaldi as Dr Who?

Capaldi in any role would be amazing.

The Tarantino Trek movie idea was supposedly based on that episode. It would have been great, too bad he decided not to do it.
Agreed. IIRC, that happened during, or in the wake of, the Viacom/CBS/Paramount merger, along with several other potential projects and may have simply gotten "lost in the sauce" during that transition period.

Update: I remembered correctly. Tarantino's pitch happened in December of 2017. The merger was started in September of 2016 and completed in August of 2019. Definitely some overlap and the merger wheels likely (and sadly) rolled over that plan epic-flat.

That and the corporate suits were a bunch of stuffed-shirt tight-asses. And in other news, rain is wet.

From what I remember reading of Tarantino's script idea, it wasn't so much based on "Piece of the Action" but instead involved time travel and sounded more like "City on the Edge of Forever" with gangsters instead of a social worker.

Wow, Rob Burnett and Critical Drinker are really annoying me with their ‘Star Trek is Dead’ stance… what is it with these type of ‘YT influencers’ that think they have a CLAIM over ST..?
I was looking for a new podcast to listen to at work the other day and, by chance I came upon one of his "Robservation" cast from right around when SNW premiered, last year. Figured I could use a laugh, so I gave it a shot.

What a sad, angry little man. His feelings of self importance and ownership over Trek fandom had me laughing my ass off.

I may honestly have to listen to more of his podcast as he certainly made my afternoon fly by with his particular brand of stupidity.
