Perfect episode.
The direction and lighting was on point creating the perfect vibe, it had a great only "could be Star Trek" story, did a lot of work for one of its main characters, and all the ancillary plots didn't feel like a drag on the episode.
I mean, this may be one of the top episodes of the entire franchise. You could show someone this episode without any context and I'm pretty sure it would work as a standalone story like Inner Light or The Visitor.
Also not to harp on Picard S3 again, but holy hell what a difference having the volume makes when it comes to being able to show your story instead of having people do exposition dumps.
Onitra Johnson, one of the co-writers of the episode was also a co-writer of Elysian Kingdom which I think is a favourite of most people from S1, so that makes sense to me.
Dan Liu directed some Picard S3, which isn't all that interesting, but he also directed some episodes of the Walking Dead franchise which does kind of line up with some of the more horror elements of the episode.

They probably scoop up all H2 and have to enrich the D2 fraction.

worst in the season for me 
so something i noticed. When Paul/Kirk said to spock "Why don't you....join us." I could almost her Shatner saying it with his signature pause.
I think he said in an interview that as the season went on he'd probably bring in more Kirk mannerisms.
Did anyone else figure out after the first few times Uhura heard the droning sound that it was clearly some alien species trying to communicate with her? Maybe the episode title gave it away too much, but I felt a little let down by what I feel like was supposed to be a surprise. When she and The Kirk Bros. figured it out I was just like, "Well, duh." Otherwise, it was a solid episode and very much in keeping with the best traditions of Trek.
Sam was being totally unreasonable and had no legitimate reason to be mad at Jim. Was he supposed to hold himself back so he wouldn't make his brother look bad? That's silly. The mention of George Kirk being XO of the Kelvin was neat, though.
Kinda wish we had seen Kirk and La'an share that drink. But seeing him meet Pike (per canon, when he was promoted to Fleet Captain. That was well done) and meet Spock were really cool moments.

I like Paul Wesley as Kirk more each time we see him. He’s Kirk to me. I loved see him and Sam together and talking about their father and how that affects their relationship.
Kirk meeting both Pike and Spock for the first time was cool.
And we got a completely different meeting between Prime Kirk and Prime Uhura vs. their Kelvin counterparts. This was nice to see them get on from the start here.

Pelia and Una were cute together. Their scenes were funny.
Nice mystery with the sounds and hallucinations . I had no idea what was going on.

I found the murder of the unnamed Enterprise crew person a bit exploitative - especially as there was no sense that anyone cared. I know that's in keeping with franchise history, but I found it a bit tasteless.
It was a nice episode and lovely to have more time with Uhura. I still don't feel like Una is a strong character, I am not sure what the writers are wanting from her - she feels like Chakotay in terms of a poorly developed first officer, who could be much better. Nice wee bits of background too - Spock and Chapel, especially, and Laan too.
On Kirk, Wesley is charismatic for sure. I think Kirk is so complicated in terms of our relationship to him as a character, as the "movie Kirk" (or the Kirk's in different movies) has rather eclipsed in public perception TOS Kirk. I do feel Wesley Kirk is much more in touch with aspects of 60s Kirk - he's sometimes a bit dorky and likes to joke, he's a flirt but not too much (ie he isn't Pine Kirk), he's serious but not inflexible, and so on. But equally he is different, and like everyone else on the show who aren't really like prior incarnations (ie everyone), that's ok

Yeah, it's the title. That's what I thought going into the episode. And later I thought we were doing a "Tholian Web" thing, just because of how self-referential this entire season has been.
Was she dead? She looked pretty bloody but I thought she was just injured. Anyway, seems like they could've had more than a couple of people looking for that maniac-- seemed to be plenty of people in the bar.
Have the 3x Actors who portrayed Kirk ever met IRL in one place?
Chapel covers her with a sheet later on in sickbay, typically the universal sign of "They're dead." I too thought that was highly unnecessary. Usually, the death of a background character happens to communicate the severity of the situation or the depravity of the villain. I don't think we needed to add murder to what Ramon was already guilty of to move the story along.
Kirk is still growing as a person. He’s getting there but he’s not quite the Kirk from TOS yet.
I’m guessing that we will get one more Kirk appearance this season. I’m expecting to see the beginning of the Kirk/Spock bromance next time Wesley guest stars.
