Anyone still build models?

My friends, the great experiment: The Excelsior. Ready for trial runs

Finally finished.

I got all the saucer lighting and wiring in my 350 TOS E, glued the top and bottom together, looked at the seam, and ran out of gas. I'll get back to it later.

Nice job! I wonder what that Excelsior is based on, the deflector opening is very tall/goes high up compared to the STIII one. I thought it might be the CG one from Flashback but that doesn't match either. (Although the deflector space on that one was oversized too, but just overall rather than tall.) Not trying to nitpick the model company, just generally curious and wondering out loud. :)

It’s been some time since I built a starship model. What little time I have for scale modelling has been taken up with a HO street traction layout. Recently, though, I’ve gone down a bit of a dive into Doug Drexler’s earlier concept work for the NX-01. Some of his ideas had to do with the ship looking like it ´had it’s ass hanging out’, that it was more fragile & rudimentary. He took inspiration from the P38, but he also mentioned taking inspiration from bare aluminum bomber aircraft. He wanted fewer windows, and his original plan for the nacelle pylons was for them to be much thinner.

I like these ideas. So I started whittling down a 1/350 kit. Why build something “screen accurate” when you don’t have to?

Felt like working on something nice and simple for a bit. Got this, a 1:2500 Enterprise-D, a 1:1000 Reliant and Refit, and a 1:2500 Shenzhou that I think I wanna tackle before starting DS9.

Well, that's the Bird of Prey all finished.

It was a nice and simple build that took about a week, and was a good chance to work on something that wasn't white, grey, or metallic for a change. Plus I love weathering, so a BoP was a perfect chance to get in a little practice.

Still not sure what I'm gonna start next. Probably should do the Grissom that came with the BoP, but it's such an ugly ship.....

We'll see how she goes.
