It would qualify as vegetarian if the meat has not been procured by the exploitation of an animal. There are some who certainly wouldn't eat it, but ethical vegetarians should have no issue with it.

Replicated meat is made from resequenced protein.

In this case, the protein they are talking about is poop. (not a joke, there's canon.)

So it's mass canabalism.

What are those circular things at the center of the tables in the port galley? They look like dejarik boards from that other star franchise.

I gotta say, I think your read on what she does is not accurate. I don't know what's up with Sybok or that she even knows who he really is. (Hope she finds out). From what I understand, the place she works is for Vulcan criminals who want to be rehabilitated (returned to logic). It's an alternative to a prison that might not meet their cultural needs re: rehabilitation. It's not for Vulcans who've merely rejected logic as a guiding principle. (Although I'm sure those people don't get the good jobs.)
This. Whether it's dystopian or not is too soon to tell, but clearly T'Pring's work is that of a social worker trying to rehabilitate people back into society, to help them feel themselves again. Her intentions are exceedingly good.

I mean, is it any different from Tantalus Colony or wherever Garth of Izar was kept?
And, yes, I can totally see her becoming the T'Pring we see in Amok Time.

In addition to the cool stories, one of the things I like about SNW is how it provides backstories to things we see in TOS. Like M'Benga suggesting that Spock plays the instrument. So far the backstory for Spock and T'Pring has been a joy to watch.
I have to agree. I think this is one of the better examples of a prequel that has been around.
Not really a good example.

Perhaps it is time to treat it as a new timeline?

I believe that will allow the precious canon to be preserved while allowing entertainment to continue?
Honestly, I find it fascinating how the "current" SNW events tie into TOS. They're doing it so well with the Spock/T'Pring relationship and also the Spock/Christine relationship. It's adding to the larger story while being entertaining in the present. That's the way to use canon to make the stories even better.

For me, it's all one timeline and that's for the best.

No. The chief difference between SNW's depiction of sexuality and TOS's and early TNG's, is that SNW is more interested in deeper emotions than TOS or early TNG. That's why even though almost all the characters are pretty damn sexy, none of them are sexually objectified.

But I want more out of this show than office romance. I want a pure exploration episode in deep space. I want to see this show reach heights like the Corbomite Manuever or Doomaday Machine. Just a pure edge of your seat suspense out in the unknown regions of space. Weve gotten very little of that so far. I really like the show but it needs more exploration.

Yep. One would have to be living under a rock not to be aware of the market for plant-based meat substitutes, from Smart Dogs to the Impossible Whopper.
The Impossible Whopper, especially, is accessible for people. A lot of the Impossible/Beyond substitutes are quite a bit more expensive than their meat counterparts, but an Impossible Whopper is only slightly more than a regular Whopper.

Also, it's damned good, IMO.

Vegetarians eat and buy plant proteins that are produced to look like (and supposedly taste like) varieties and cuts of meat.

Riker's explanation in TNG Season is not what what was revealed later.

They put a cow in a transporter.

Record it's pattern.

Then produce that pattern, that exact same cow, ad infinitum Federation wide.

They could have all of them, been eating the same cow who had been recorded/scanned 300 years ago.

I suppose it could have been a very healthy cow who died of natural causes, or an accident that was not connived by human hands, so the slavery question is questionable, although vegans see leather as the exploitation of animals, and it's not like any one wears living leather except for rich old white ladies.

That was for the criminally insane. And not for Vulcans. Vulcans have special requirements, okay? They can't just be thrown into the general populace of the Federation's regular criminally insane.

For that...I'm telling you about this time I was on a trip to East Africa.
Uh huh. Sure.

They have been pretty good with not objectifying characters but, I feel Christina Chong was sexualised in episode 3 and I found it cheap.

I really don't agree. If she were sexualized, she would have been given far more revealing costumes. "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" strongly emphasized her feelings over her sexuality.

Well, except for the fact that Ethan Peck played a younger version of Kutcher's Michael Kelso character in 2 episodes of That 70's Show.

Yeah, and his performance as Spock has nothing in common with that.

You have gotten more out of this show than office romance.

I want a pure exploration episode in deep space.

Too bad; that's not the kind of story the writers want to tell.

I want to see this show reach heights like the Corbomite Manuever or Doomaday Machine.

SNW regularly exceeds the heights of "The Corbomite Maneuver" and "The Doomsday Machine."

Just a pure edge of your seat suspense out in the unknown regions of space.

"Momento Mori" and "All Those Who Wander."

Beyond is a little odd, but Impossible is amazing

Holy Christ, what an episode. A 10+ from me... can't really even run through all the moments right now, but man what a balance between comedy and drama, character development, and high-concept sci-fi, all wrapped up in a tightly paced, perfectly directed and superbly written entry. Bravo.

I cooked a veggie burger patty at home once and my cat (cats are carnivores) was fooled enough after the smell that he came up meowing to me for a bite, even though a veggie burger has no nutritional value for cats.
