Wow, Pike! Previously, I thought he was not a combatant type guy. Even in season 1, Pike couldn't even save a boy from being sacrificed by their own people. But when he lost his memory, WOW. he could destroy a castle single-handedly. That's really amazing. it is really amazing, because even the combatant character like La'an and previously Klingon beater the doctor couldn't do so much against those Castle Guards without being hurt.

So maybe Pike without memory is like Son Goku in Super Saiyan mode.

Pike was established as a fighter the moment he was throttling those Talosians in the 1960s. In regards to his failure to save the First Servant of Majalis, keep in mind he was severely emotionally compromised (to put it mildly) considering he was literally having a physical relationship with the lead perpetrator of the First Servant's suffering.

Wow...as bad takes go, that one is the absolute crappiest.

What gave you that idea?
I don't think Pike lacking combat skills is why the boy wasn't saved.

Look at him in Strange New World. He almost never fight in hand to hand combat. Every time he went in away team, he'll allow himself to be captured and preach the Alien instead. And when the Enterprise was hijacked, it was the crews who take over the enemy ship. Pike was only act as team hoorray.Even when he lead the away team to rescue a Starfleet ship in season 1 episode 9, it was La'an who fight, not Pike. he always stay behind his capable crews.

That's why I think Pike is not some kind of front-line combatant type character like La'an and Michael Burnham.

But when he lost his memory. WOW, he can even capture a castle singlehandedly.

Nope.

So when Pike has his memory, he's a preacher. But when he lost his, he become hell come to earth.
Choosing diplomacy over combat doesn't mean he can't fight, just that he prefers not too.

Q&A said that Pike considers having to resort to force as failure.

Anyone that loves to fight too much would not pass the psych test, or any other number of checks and balances to make sure that they are not handing over 300 quantum torpedoes to a head case.

Sure. Agreed. But I think anyone in the Captain’s seat would be able to throw a punch or two. Most people in Starfleet seem at least capable.

Learning to fight is a video game.

Although what happened to Pike, the opposite Captain's First Officer Sending an email to an admiral about how much the Captain sucks, is something no early 23rd century AI could have emulated/predicted.

Captain Styles seems like a dick who would unload all his torpedoes, for glory.

Captain Ransom would hide under a stellar anomaly for months rather than risk getting hit by one torpedo, although he was in a tiny ship, with shitty shields.
