I have this gut feeling that Bartel might not survive this season. I could be wrong.

Well she has no real character development besides being Pike's side piece. And Pike suddenly and conveniently realized he has feelings for her.

So it's all downhill from here.

This just makes Pike look like a terrible captain; leaving all that equipment down there. Did no one notice? I would fire whoever is in charge of checking the inventory.
Also, why so many phaser rifles? Were they planning an invasion?

He deserves to be on trial more than Una.

Well it does explain why he's all ready to flee to Orion in The Cage.

You're right. Even if Yeoman Nguyen genuinely had died, all those phaser rifles would've caused massive havoc on Rigel 7's society. And the thing is, we're not even clear why they went down there to begin with in 2254! Just to have a look around? With all those weapons?

It's ironic that Pike's Kelvin counterpart rips Kirk a new one and demotes him for letting the natives see the Enterprise in Star Trek Into Darkness, yet even that apparently had some context--Pike himself ordered the Enterprise to save the natives from a volcano, and Kirk only revealed the Enterprise to the natives because there was no other choice to save Spock's life.

Pike massively contaminated Rigel 7's culture for reasons that aren't even clear to begin with, and out of sloppiness too--it seems they never even knew about the missing phaser rifles until there was a literal Starfleet insignia on Rigel's palace garden.

To be fair, remember that they couldn't really scan the planet from orbit; so they didn't know what type of civilization they would be running into on the surface back when Pike and the 1701 first visited Rigel VII. And personally I think it makes pike look like a good captain in that he's more concerned about preserving the lives of the people under his command then worrying about Starfleet equipment.

And yes we all know that all Starfleet captains and crew members take a an oath that they'll die before they violate general order one AKA the prime directive; but we all know that in practice every Starfleet captain we've seen on screen has had an occasion where they decided to violate general order one to save their ship, members of their crew, or in extreme cases of themselves.

So bottom line, Pike's actions in the original Rigel VII visit are hardly outside the norm.

So, if this officer is indeed the records officer, it would not presumably be protocol to refer to them as a science specialist.

My apologies if I caused any confusion. The character at the navigation station in the picture you quoted was Lieutenant Amin, from season 2 of Discovery. It was that character who was identified as a records officer in graphics created for "Ad Astra Per Aspera". The person who was identified as the science specialist was the character on the right of the casualty list (M. Aberth) on "Among the Lotus Eaters". I didn't intend to imply they were the same person, sorry.

So, there were graphics made up including capsule biographies for Spock, Chapel, Ortegas, Chin-Riley...?

The only one we actually saw on screen was Ortegas, IIRC. I don't know if any of the others were created or not.

Looks like she is from Barranquilla, Colombia.

But phaser rifles? Why not just bring phasers? The former just makes it looks like he's coming down for war.

You all do realize Ortegas IS NOT the only goddamn person "driving the ship?" There's at least three or four shifts of DIFFERENT crewmembers doing the same job, plus trainees. Modern TREK never even stops to consider this. EVER.

It looks like Robert Meyer Burnett missed the computer referring to Ortegas as the alpha shift pilot. Just smh
