Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I don't believe that I'm bitter, at not becoming a writer. I'm just really upset that Hollywood refuses to create entertainment to entertain. And instead prefers to make shitty, petty and vindictive bullshit, to lecture people about how bad they are, for liking what they like, for being normal. That sort of entertainment isn't. The only people who 'enjoy' that sort of crap; are evil and/or mentally ill.
I've often wondered why I am so completely mentally deranged.

Obviously it's because I've been watching and enjoying Star Trek shows since 1966.

Pike and Batel are drinking Chateau Picard.

And it's a screwtop. Which lends credence to the increasingly widely held view that Chateau Picard is actually a pretty terrible "sour mead".

Nope. Except for a food synthesizer in one episode of DSC that does but that was just a continuity error.

Or just one of the ripple effects of the new "close enough" continuity, in which case asking why Pike is not drinking synthehol instead of the real alcohol that can impair him is a valid question

SCOTT: What in blazes is this?
WAITER: Didn't you order Scotch?
SCOTT: Laddie, I was drinking Scotch a hundred years before you were born and I can tell you that whatever this is, it is definitely not Scotch.
DATA: I believe I may be of some assistance. Captain Scott is unaware of the existence of synthehol.
SCOTT: Synthehol?
DATA: Yes, sir. It is an alcohol substitute now being served aboard starships. It simulates the appearance, taste and smell of alcohol, but the intoxicating affects can be easily dismissed.

Per the above, Data assumes that Scott doesn't know about synthehol yet it's established as being in Discovery's 23rd century replicator. We could just say Data was wrong and Scott's "Synthehol?" isn't lack of recognition but his astonishment that he was given it when he didn't ask for it.
