The Face Of The Franchise

Why does it matter? Any of it, I mean? So what?
To make people cry...

You ignored the article in order to make a completely irrelevant point.

Nope, I directly addressed an unsupported assertion which is used in the article to justify its contention.

It claims that SNW is a "ratings hit", that the others did not have enough fans which is "why they're cancelled" and that SNW is "the first true hit" that Trek has had in years.

That is a self-serving claim which is not backed up by objective data - and, indeed, cannot be since Paramount only joined the Nielsen charts in the last few weeks (charts, incidentally, which have Picard in the top ten).

Discovery is the face of the franchise. Everything about modern trek evolved out of Discovery, even the viability of Picard. The others have more direct connections to it.

No. STD will fade away soon. STP season 3 has had the highest numbers of any streaming star trek series so right now its the face if the franchise. No one really cares about the USS Discovery. The Enterprise D is far prettier and better. STSNW is right after STP.

Lower Decks could have been that if it kept with what was best about the first season.

In the first season, most of the humor took a Star Trek thing that most general skiffy fans (and some skiffy-adjacent fans) would recognize and paired it with something everyone could recognize. Badgie being the most obvious example of this. The holodeck is pretty well known within the greater pop culture sphere. Everyone over 20 knows what Clippy is.

But with the second season is when the PCBS higher-ups started going all-in with the nostalgia=profits. And the jokes just followed the same "remember when" set-up/punchline formula that no one outside the core fan base is ever going to get.

I thought the flyby joke at the beginning of the DS9 episode was one of the funniest things I'd seen in years. I laughed so hard I lost my breath for a moment. But that's me. The reality is the actual percentage of people within the greater skiffy fandom who would actually get that is insignificantly small.
