I disagree, I think it makes a strong statement on our younger generation that is so reliant on networked computers and the IoT where everything is dumbed down to the point of hopelessness. Many young people feel hopeless today and blame the older generation, not themselves. So this episode turns 25 and younger against the older sucessful generation.

Oh so much to unpack here, but why bother? I'm 68 and I completely understand why young people are in despair. I only have to look around me. So, I choose to see this plot twist as merely an excuse to make saving the day reliant on our original cast. Who are (save LeVar) older than me.

The character interactions are great. The plot is middling at best. And with a pretty serious plot, the tone is wildly inconsistent. That’s why I’m having such a hard time with this season.

According to Memory Alpha, “Vox” is the 882nd produced Star Trek adventure.
Heh .. Star Trek could be the first IP to hit 1000 produced episodes/movies.

Impressive.

I'm OK with all of starfleet being in danger this time since it's the sendoff to TNG, and Picard's final season.

Otherwise, I got tired with the trope, and is part of the reason why I love LD and SNW so much.

DS9 didn't have a new threat every season. While the Dominion War threatened all of the Federation, it was the same threat that developed over seasons.

Also, them cracking jokes on the bridge while everyone over 25 in Starfleet was being killed and everyone younger had been assimilated just felt flat. This scene would have worked better if they went to the Enterprise before the Borg's plan was implemented IMO.

This was my one quibble with the episode. As a father of two girls myself, there's no way I could be as nonchalant and light-hearted with my friends while my daughters are essentially held captive by cybernetic monsters.

Having been in several tension filled incidents during my years, I can assure you that a lot of folks turn to humor quite quickly just for their own ease of mind.

It doesn't work when they keep going the mystery box route. And there's a difference between finding out who the true villain 1.5 hours into a 2 hour movie vs 9 hours into a 10 hour story if you were going to do the movie comparison.

The TNG movies were terrible, too. So far, we have zero evidence that this cast could ever really pull off a hollywood movie. It was meant for serialized TV.

Nolan North voiced the captain of the Excelsior

From what little we could see in the shadow, it looks like they reused the S2 Borg queen stuff

I they mention the kids right away —this is more professional compartmentalising as we have seen from these exact crew members time and again. Wailing and crying won’t get the kids back, so for now they are just doing what they do. They might spend a few minutes allowing themselves a positive, but they aren’t dragging their feet and weeping in their quarters for an hour — they’re breaking out the old ship, and attempting to get stuff done.
Same as when Picard was assimilated, or when Geordi’s mother was lost with her ship, or when, or when, or when… TNG is full of personal stakes stories, and every time they went at it *mostly* calm until the problem was solved.
Science the shit out of it, as someone else once said.

The one thing that did get lavish priority were the homages. It's felt like nine hours of unboxing a time capsule to see what we put inside all those years ago. I know that has a lot of emotional resonance for a lot of fans and I'm happy that's brought so many people so much joy. I'm disappointed to find how much it does not work for me.

I think sums it up perfectly for me.

Yeah not referring to you, referring to the account who just joined today, found this thread and decided to start screaming about how the writers are hacks.
Not screaming actually, and I'm not saying the writers are hacks. The writers ARE hacks. It's not an opinion.

Forget politics, this is clearly an allegory to the obsession (mostly) under 25s have with Tiktok and how the oldies are trying to rescue them from their imminent demise.
So they spent 10 hours to do a roundabout, terrible, worse version of a Wesley Crusher-Ashley Judd episode?

Embarrassing.

Yes, it is. It is your opinion. There is no objective definition of hacks that can be utilized.

By all means own your opinion.

So where do you take the franchise then?
Embarrassing.
For whom? Embarrassing implies a measure of shame but not everyone experiences it the same. Are you embarrassed by this? If so, why, as you have no responsibility with how this show was made?

Notice how you have no valid defense for these butt logs--only personal insults.

I have commented regularly with valid discussion of the events and episodes (even this one which I haven’t seen all of yet) including discussing your points with you.

This post — responding to yours with such highly technical terms as dreck — is the first time I have even approached not doing so. I have yet to see how you conclude, objectively or decisively, that the writing this series has been the work of a hack. Not least as it’s actually, objectively, been the most joined up logical piece of writing I have seen in a Trek show in quite some time. Not since Voyager. Though I have not seen all of ENT, and dropped out of DSC and SNW (though the second was not related to its quality at least) so it’s possible more existed.

The dictionary definition of hack is "cut with rough or heavy blows." That's exactly what this is. The most rough, blunt, shallow, surface level dredged up old crap pieced together virtually randomly for your rube enjoyment.

They're objectively hacks. They can't come up with anything new. They can only badly piece together old junk.

You have not shown the standard as objective. Only subjective, as is the nature of art.

Any opinion around heart that claims objectiveness I will dismiss since the experience of art is subjective.
