Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x09 - "Võx"

While it wasn't done in the way I imagined, the reveal of the D was positively squee-inducing. If you grew up watching TNG and didn't at least tear up, I don't know how. That was spectacular.
That makes the Borg the through-arc for all 3 seasons/
Poor Shaw. I hoped he had just passed out.
I saw the spoilers when they leaked, but I still teared up the moment the lights activated on the bridge. AND THEN MAJEL’S VOICE, oh man. After loving this crew and starship since I first became a Trekkie 31 years ago, this hits on every emotional level for me.
That's ok. Someone else already did. I'm having to keep up with the story by what I can find online. Can't afford P+.
Reactions in roughly chronological order:
- This petal effect is fabulous, a great balance of gorgeous and creepy.
- "I promise, you won't be alone." -ten seconds later, the sound of Deanna's heels fleeing into the distance-
- Spoilers can't dim the fact that standing on the edge of an abyss and staring down a Borg cube was a hecking good way to do the reveal.
- Jean-Luc, you've known Jack for less than a week, and that's his mother. Stand your ass down.
- Thank fuck Jack was smart enough to just cut to the chase, because I was rooting for him to smack his old man into next week if he dropped one more gd metaphor.
- Yeah, congrats Team TNG for handling that in the worst way possible. Can't blame Jack for cutting and running after all that.
- Have I mentioned how glad I am that Soong's dead? Body-snatching creep...
- Amused as hell that Riker retired a captain, but Elizabeth "You're In My Way" Shelby is still an acting admiral.
- Is it curmudgeonly to say I liked the Borg better when they weren't so damn dramatic? And knew how to keep the decks clear of tripping hazards?
- I feel like there's a metaphor here with all the young 'uns turning on the old crew, but I'm enjoying the creep factor too much to go looking for it right now.
- Mura can go into the same "yeah, suuuure you're early 20's" bin as Jack.
- Welp. So long, Shelby. Cameoing on this show really is the kiss of death.
- You know, maybe it's for the best that Elnor's not in this season. That would be a lot of decapitations...
- Mmm. Not feeling like this is Data so much as it is Spiner, but as least he and Geordi have a good rapport going.
- And there goes Shaw, though with fewer heroic explosions than predicted. I really expected him to go down with the ship in the end; feels like his arc was a bit truncated. If he stays dead, the ep gets a 10/10, but I do wonder if Matalas might actually remember Seven's nanoprobes...
- Oooo, are we gonna get some Seven and Raffi battle couple badassery?
- Oh, hey lady. It's been a while. You've still got it, though.
- Worf, I do love your pragmatic ass.
- Good to hear Majel one last time.
Yup, not much to say. I've been very "eh, it's fine" on the season up to this point, but that was a damn entertaining hour of TV. Hopefully this will be the first PIC season to stick the landing on the finale.

I'm glad it's part Borg that's been passed down to Jack. I'm glad it's not that he's a Pah'Wraith or a Changeling or anything like that. They're doing this on TNG terms. As they should.

I didn’t like season 2 but I agree with everything you said. It happened and so did season 1 about the Ex Borg. Picard as a series is turning into something where if you described it in 10 years you can say ignore seasons 1 and 2 and only watch season 3 for the TNG nostalgia. For that reason alone is could never be better than any of the new trek series. Picard isn’t a series. It’s a collection of stories for nostalgia purposes. There are no characters, just member berries.
So, uh...how long until I can use that fully powered-up shot of the E-D as my profile pic?
And I will gladly take theses kinda memberries any time.

I can't really rate the episode without seeing 310 as well.
- I've ripped into season 1 for its mass violence, so no matter how much of a fan I am of Terry Matalas from his past work, having Shelby return just to be killed like that (unlike how Ro was handled) really bothers me. And to then think how many people died when all those ships were taken over... Hopefully there's somehow a reset button...
- Is Shaw dead? I'm skeptical, but at the same time Todd Stashwick is a legit good friend to Matalas and crew for making all the appearances to promote Legacy, even if he's already written out.
- Alice Krige as the Borg Queen voice! And the Borg Cube looks like a Berman era one, not that revisionist one from season 1. So props for that...
- So the Borg are the season villain? I was expecting some kind of extra twist, like another TNG villain hijacking the Locutus remnant for something else.
- Yay for the Enterprise-D...
- Matalas did a great job directing, although this episode was written by 12 MONKEYS veteran Sean Tretta and writers assistant for season 1 then staff writer and co-writer of 203 Kiley Rossetter.
And that’s fine. My point though is this isn’t really a “series” anymore. It’s almost like each season should be considered more of an anthology for Short Treks than an actual TV show.
I'll ask the important question: will the ship in the "Star Trek Universe" opening fanfare thingy next week still be the Titan....or will it be something else?
That was very moving. We all knew what was in Bay 12 slash that the D would be back at some point (I like the idea that Geordi would just be working on this in his garage over the last 20 years, like 9-to-5 suburban dad would work on a mid-70s Fort Cortina MKIII on Sundays), and it was still poignant to watch the lights slowly come on and the crew to take the bridge (lots of nice wide shots where you could see all of them in frame).

Because Picard can't just have a son he didn't know about and get to know him while the TNG crew goes on one last adventure.
