How the hell Picard and Bev MISSED Vadic is beyond me and comes across as sloppy.
Old people aren't as fast at reacting compared to younger folks.

So their aim isn't nearly as quick.

Jerry Miculek is the modern IRL exception.

You'd think Daystrom would use holographic technicians to work on biomatter samples instead of actual people who could be compromised. Sheesh!

It's the same mentality that Geordi holds when it comes to servicing Lata without a sandbox.:brickwall:
StarFleet doesn't have their IT Security folks calling the shots. It's rando's who don't know any better. That's why there are still security vulnerabilities.

Because nobody listens to the IT Security or general Security professionals when it comes to setup and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).

They think they know more than the Security Pro's and hate the "Inconvenience" that Security imposes. Once a problem shows up, they blame the IT Security folks when they didn't listen to them in the first place.

I really enjoyed Jack’s character at first but the “what’s wrong with Jack” thing being drug out this long is getting frustrating.
Also not a fan of him potentially being some genetically engineered super mutant something-or-other.

And if they go the route of Bev being secretly impregnated with Jack by something else a la X-Files I *will* stop watching.

There is, unfortunately, a non-zero percent chance of this happening....

Random collection of thoughts:
  • The first Data scene felt like a rehash of the week before. Perhaps a symptom of TV writing conventions, but contributed to a slightly heavy feel for the episode --- though I'll say, they worked hard to keep the pace up in this one.
  • With that in mind, I agree that this was essentially a scene-setting or filler episode, but a good one.
  • The Titan needs a counselor so that Jack doesn't have to pull Picard off the bridge while they're getting signals from the Shrike. Paging Dr. Migleemo!
  • It's a good thing the Changelings appear unable to fire phasers while in motion, otherwise it seems like it'd be remarkably easy to pop people in a narrow ship's corridor!
  • Amanda Plummer was just great in this one. She's been great, but was really outstanding here.
  • Not sure why Picard and Bev didn't step into the hall to discuss what to do with Vadic. I guess they wanted to keep an eye on her, but we see how well that worked.
  • Vadic's escape sucked all the weight out of their moral dilemma decision to execute her (which I didn't understand in the first place.
  • What's Lore's motivation? "He loves chaos" or "wants to be free" doesn't really explain it for me.
  • Jack's mental remote control was a very cool action sequence, and I liked that Sidney was justifiably freaked out.
  • Kinda funny that once they knew what it was called, they could just pull up all the data on Project Proteus.
  • Still excited to see how the season turns out --- so far, pretty good!

Nothing from Picard about how the vast majority of people in the Federation knew nothing about the experiments or the virus and would never have condoned it if it was public knowledge?
I doubt it would have made much of an impression on Vadic if he had. The changelings are completely convinced that all solids are out to get them and therefore all solids must die. End of, as far as they're concerned.

Man if the real Tuvok and Janeway are dead I am going to be incredibly pissed.
Same here. Bringing them back for cameos and killing them off in the process would be...very not good. Bad enough they did that to Icheb.

Oh..wait..its only bad because it happened *to them*.
Standard changeling attitude, and one of the reasons I didn't have much interest in them back in the day.

this episode cemented for me why I do NOT need or want a show about S31 and Georgiou (sp?). Between Geogiou being Space Cannibal Hitler and S31 embodying Mengele I am not sure how they can thread the needle to make a show about them where we are positively invested in S31 as the home of a show's protagonists. Some franchises have a place for something like that but I'm not sure Trek does.
Agreed. I'm quaint enough about Trek that I really don't care for S31 and its methods. (Yes, I know DS9 did it and I didn't much care for it then, either.) Michelle Yeoh I'd watch in pretty much anything but this concept doesn't appeal to me at all. Each to their own.

Where was the rest of the crew when the changelings beamed on board?
Most of the crew had been taken off the ship in "Imposters". It wasn't as though there was the full complement of 500 to deal with the baddies.

And if they go the route of Bev being secretly impregnated with Jack by something else a la X-Files I *will* stop watching
That would be beyond pathetic. Really hope they don't go down that road, but it wouldn't be a great surprise if they did. Unfortunately.

I've got that feeling, too, that we're going to get a "he's not really yours" card, and Jack will be some kind of hybrid implanted in Beverly or some garbage like that.

This episode was just ok. The Geordi stuff was the strongest, even if Lore being able to seize the ship made no sense. Geordi knows Lore. Why the hell would you leave him networked?

Vadic's fanaticism makes sense and felt earned. Probably the first use of the character I liked. Plummer's manic and ping-ponging emotional performance makes more sense now.

What the hell is Jack? My previous changeling related theories died this week. His powers are evolving. Now he can read minds (or at least Sydney's) and even influence/control her motor functions. If this ends up being Borg related this has really disturbing implications for Jack spreading nanoprobes without consent.

But the Borg theory has never made sense to me. Why would the changelings want the Borg in play? The Borg are also hated solids, and pose an existential threat to the changelings as much as anybody else. There would have to be some serious justification to make that work.

The villain behind Vadic is the key. But they haven't revealed anything about it even at this late stage.

I'm now increasingly convinced this season is going to completely fail to stick the landing. It's all been build up with no meaningful payoff. This is gonna be as terrible a reveal as The Burn on Disco.

Didn't love this episode. While it did provide some answers, I wish there were more. And for it to be titled "Dominion" I wish we had gotten more DS9 Easter Eggs. I'm also not a big fan of the Jack storyline. I don't care really (though I have no problem with the actor), and I would rather they just spit out what makes him so special instead of stretching it out. I don't think we needed a magical Jack story this season. The TNG veterans were enough of a selling point.

This episode didn't quite work for me and reminds me that this season still suffers from the same problem as the first two seasons of PIC, and that's they don't have enough story for 10 episodes. It's just this season is so drenched in nostalgia and giving me characters and character moments that I want to see or thought needed to happen (like Geordi expressing what Data meant to him, which should've been in Nemesis or PIC: Season 1). I appreciated the Geordi scene, and really liked seeing Tim Russ again. Those were the biggest highlights for me this episode. I was glad we got more about Vadic, and it was twistedly neat (like Odo in a way) that she modeled herself on the person who experimented on her. That doesn't explain why the other Changelings wear those masks and talk in an alien language. I did like that little mystery she's hinted at with Crusher, and sometimes I wonder if Crusher is a Changeling. I thought it was a missed opportunity for a quick Wil Wheaton cameo when Vadic was taunting Crusher by taking on Jack's face. I also like Sidney but didn't really care for that telepathic bond or the fight Jack directed.

Didn't like not seeing Riker and Troi in this episode, but I suspect that next week's episode will be about them, and maybe a pinch of Worf and Raffi just to stretch out the story even more.

When it's all said and done, hopefully the Changelings stealing Picard's human remains will make sense because they can already mimic him, and I'm guessing most in Starfleet know he's a synthetic so why take his human body anyway? Right now, it just feels like an awkward callback to the first season in an attempt to tie the whole series together, as well as a contrived way to make this story about Jean-Luc.

With three episodes to go I hope we see O'Brien, Keiko, Ogawa, Barclay, and Jellico from TNG. With all the mentions of Admiral Janeway, I can't see them not having her in maybe the finale, perhaps to save the day. I'm really hoping though for more DS9 love, with characters that were created specifically for that series. With all the Section 31 shenanigans, where is Bashir or even Garak? Would it hurt to see Captain Dax as part of Frontier Day? Or Jake as a journalist? Kira could be on hand representing Bajor. The fall of the Federation, at the hands of Changelings, seems like a good enough impetus for Sisko to come back. I would be happy to see what Kasidy is up to as well. Give me DS9.

To be fair the nano probes are always spread without consent (expect for Jurati's neo-Borg?) but I get your point! It would be hard to see how this is a Borg thing...

It's just this season is so drenched in nostalgia

Uhhhh........cognitive dissonance?

Edited to add: this post is a result of poor reading comprehension on my part!!

How about you don't cut out the rest of the sentence. Just because I see the trick the magician is pulling it doesn't mean I can't also enjoy it, a good deal of the time when it comes to this season.

We will not see 10 guest stars. ;-) 2-4 is probably the maximum.

You know what I re-read your post and you're right. I am sorry!
