The music was composed by Jeff Russo for the series, there's flute in it, which likely callbacks to The Inner Light, but this is not the Inner Light Suite. As I said, the First Contact theme is just shoehorned in without any consideration for how it matches thematically. The effect is jarring.

I love the First Contact theme, but if you just cram it into a series because "hey this is from a movie people loved!" without tailoring it for a proper fit, you get a compositional mess, and that's what we get.

Ok. I agree it’s an odd choice. I guess I just don’t think it’s jarring because they’re musically similar and FC is a Picard centered story where he struggles with his demons. And a crazy robot lady.

Read what I said. I said I didn't ACTIVELY skip posts. I clicked the thread and when it opened, it opened directly to the photo in question. I didn't have a chance to purposefully skip any posts that would have informed me that the episode had dropped. I literally clicked the thread and instantly got a screen full of spoiler. A simple spoiler tag would have easily avoided that.

Lol. What you're not getting is that as far as I knew, NOBODY had seen the episode. Why would I expect screenshots of an episode that AFAIK hadn't aired yet? You're arguing as if the episode had been online for hours, when in reality it was put up incredibly early, to the surprise of many. All I'm asking is for people to wait for the normal time the episodes are expected to be online before posting unavoidable spoilers, or at the very least put them behind a spoiler tag. For 6 episodes before this I have come into these threads to check out pre-episode discussions and not ONCE have I seen any spoilers I couldn't avoid. Now suddenly there is one, and the key difference is that the episode aired earlier than normal. Not sure what is so hard to understand about holding off with a big reveal like that, but apparently some people just can't help themselves.
I don't know how you missed the posts about the episode dropping early, then, but they were there. @KennyB and I have determined that @NCC-73515 was in the right to post the pic at that time. And for the umpteenth time, if you want to avoid episode spoilers, don't go in the episode discussion thread before you've watched the episode. End of discussion.

The FC theme, and variations of it, has been used to denote "the TNG family" since...as far back as Insurrection basically which had snippets of the FC music in it.

Nemesis had more.

Picard S1 and S2 were basically unfucking Picards head.

This is about the TNG family in relation.

The piccolo is certainly meant to invoke the Ressican flute as a kind of homage but the actual main theme is a note for note rendition of music that appears in the Inner Light. So it wasn’t made for PIC, just arranged for it. I’m splitting hairs here.

I honestly don't find them musically similar. Jerry Goldsmith's FC theme is softer, more expansive, while Jeff Russo's score is more focused, more purpose driven, it gives the impression that time has moved on. First Contact doesn't do this because it wasn't meant to portray that.

It is not The Inner Light Suite, nor is it rearranged from the Inner Light Suite, not by a country mile. The best you could do was say "inspired," but even then the Russo composition is tailored for the Picard series.

It’s not that particular suite, which I would call the “main” inner light theme but the music is 100% from the episode. I’m on mobile right now but later will try and find the scene. It’s when JLP’s “son” is noodling on the flute. It’s the melody he plays. I don’t know why they didn’t include it in the arrangements on those albums you posted, but it’s definitely from the episode as diagetic music.

Ok, I think this is very subjective and unique to you and your preferences and feelings, which is totally fine!

I like the theme from the first two seasons of Picard better for Picard. I get why they changed it this season, because the entire TNG cast is back. I'm okay with the First Contact theme being used but, yes, they could've tailored it better. They did it before when they tailored the TMP theme to fit TNG's opening. I would've kept the FC theme throughout, instead of switching midway through. Then I would've made adjustments at the beginning and end to fit the length of that portion of the credits.

So, with Vadic:

Either Section 31 lied about POWs when the war ended, or those prisoners were an contention point during the Dominion Negotiations mentioned during Insurrection. Or both. They lied about having those POWs and there were still other things to negotiate.

I'll have to watch the episode again. But I'm guess that because she's now a different type of Changeling, that's why she can't go back to The Great Link.

I'm glad with the DS9 episodes I re-watched, I stuck to focusing on only the Changeling aspect of it. I even kind of got the Changeling point-of-view by skipping everything in the middle. The war was nothing to them as long as they had Odo back and the Alpha Quadrant agreed to terms with them.

I really like seeing a different series' take on the Dominion.

Yes, he plays several notes from what would later become part of the Picard theme but that's:

1. Not part of the Inner Light Suite.
2. Several notes do not a full composition make.
3. The theme of Picard was still tailor made for the series.
4. First Contact's theme does not match the series in either tone or structure.

As I said, the best you can do is say The Inner Light suite inspired Jeff Russo's composition, but it's still composed and tailor made for the Picard series. If anything, it adds evidence to the issue that while Russo's theme was designed to portray a theme of the Picard series, First Contact is just added to the beginning and end of Picard without any thematic tailoring, it's just slapped there and it does not work, it is jarring, it does not fit, it was never designed to fit, and clearly no effort was made to ensure it would.
