TNG fans please identify yourselves ...

We don't tend to have much pinned in this forum, so I think that we can get away with having one of these introductory threads. If you're a regular poster or visitor here, or a recently arrived newbie, then take a moment to post in here, and give us a few words telling us which characters/actors and aspects of TNG are your favourites to discuss. :)

I will start us off ... I like to think of myself as fairly flexible in my TNG viewing, but have come to have a slight preference for the more character driven stories in recent years. I also like finding good qualities in some of the more often critisised episodes ("Justice", "Shades Of Gray", "Sub Rosa" etc ...).

While I consider Picard and Data to be the best written characters, Riker is nonetheless my favourite, with Q my favourite guest star.

I like to amuse myself by disturbing people with Picard/Q pictures like this one. :p

Anyone else?
I’m 33 started watching tng with my dad at a early age loved it ever since went away during my teenage years for sports got back in bought all the tng dvd ds9 and watched voyager on Netflix rewatch a mixture all 3 while gooong sleep every night

Okay. I'm a huge TNG fan.

I've tried teaching my head that DS9 is better or that ENT deserves a second chance and maybe VOY too, but there is something about TNG that "grabbed me by the throat."

It's mostly Stewart, Spiner and Dorn I think. With very many recurring actors.

New Member here! TNG has been one of my favourite Star Trek series since I was young, Data is my favourite crew member from this series, his actions and statements can be quite humorous.

TNG is my fav. It's imperfect and wonderful.

It's unique in television history, so much so 21st century audiences can't accept its as a new show in 2023, and we've had to roll back our idealism. I find that appropiate in our time, but for that 7 year period it felt pretty good.

New member! Favourite character has to be Riker - I always loved his 'by the book' attitude in contrast with Picard's higher ideals. Fan of all Berman-era Trek shows mostly and the more serialized format.

New member here. I enjoy all Trek series but prefer TNG and consider "The Measure of a Man", "Who Watches the Watchers?", "Darmok", and "The Inner Light" as my favorite episodes from that series.

38 here… watching TOS and TNG with my Dad growing up solidified that heroes can be well spoken, slow to escalation but quick to act where ethically appropriate/, … I haven’t gotten everything right in life but a lot of teaching and wisdom happened during those episodes.

38 and also like the poster above I watched TNG with my dad growing up. It is still my favorite Star Trek and I bristle when people act like it is simple because it approaches story telling differently than things which came after. I actually feel like it had a huge effect on my sense of ethics too. Even just the sense of their being a purpose to holding to something even when their was risk and loss in doing so because of a higher obligation.

When I was a kid I watched Reading Rainbow too so I loved Levar Burton/Geordie. But I’m a big Riker guy mostly because, admittedly, he is just cool .

Also, as an adult I really find Riker’s struggle between ambition and everything else he cares about interesting.

All that being said, I like every main character in TNG quite a bit. With Wesley and Polaski being the only two who (sometimes) get on my nerves.

That’s about it! :)

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum but not to Trek. I started watching TOS during its first run in syndication in the late 60's/early 70s. In elementary school I'd hang out with my older brother and his friend during lunch, and they'd plays Star Trek, acting out episodes. I'd tag along and was usually assignd to play a red shirt who dies right away

I skipped school and waited in line for the first showing of The Motion Picture in '79. And I've loved every incarnation of Trek ever since.

TNG has a special place in my heart, though. While the Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic is fantastic, I don't think they ever did it better than with Picard/Ricker/Data et al. That crew has been my go-to for "comfort food" TV ever since it first appeared.

Hi, Welcome! I watched TOS in the early 70s and feel the same about TNG. I find myself doing a rewatch to soothe the sadness of the current dystopia we find ourselves in... feeling hopeful for a better future, a vision to hold on to... I also read TNG novels. I just love that ST world!

Hello everyone,

Though I occasionally watched TOS on television (The Trouble with Tribbles being one of my favorites), I didn't really get into Star Trek until TNG. I probably didn't start to watch it until the final few seasons (closer to when I graduated high school back in '91). My favorite characters would have to be Picard, Riker, Troi, Geordi, Data and Q (to name a few, since I really don't dislike any of them). Though I also watched both DS9 and Voyager, I didn't care that much for DS9, since I've always preferred the ship based shows. The only TNG movie I've seen (so far, since I just bought the Picard TV and Movie Collection on Blu-ray, so that I don't have to buy them all separately when they release on Blu-ray in early April) is Generations.

When Q made an appearance on Voyager, I don't think Janeway was anymore impressed with him than Jean-Luc Picard was. I guess word gets around!

Welcome Stargazer :)
My fav is TNG but I did like DS9, despite they weren't on a ship.. I suppose the galaxy of aliens came to them on the station instead of them going to seek out new worlds. But I see what you mean. I liked VOY but didn't like that it was so many years of them traveling home.. i love seeing the same aliens and though it was cool to see new ones.. i felt like i just kept waiting for them to return home.
It was fun to see Q on VOY, well fun for us.... but as you say, Janeway :shifty: not so much
