Love chips. Can't stop eating them. Like a firm chip I can use to scoop up rice and beans.Chips are just the delivery system for the salsa!

For me, and only me, and no judgement, but that conversation would resonate with me no matter who had it.We agree! But all or at least most of that character work is dependent upon the characters’ positions as preexisting in the canon. You could tell similar stories with new people but it resonates more with the audience because we “know” them.
Character history is different than "Hey look a tribble"We agree! But all or at least most of that character work is dependent upon the characters’ positions as preexisting in the canon. You could tell similar stories with new people but it resonates more with the audience because we “know” them.
Indeed and it's what people are talking about. It's dominating the conversation, aside from the usual criticism of tech being wrong, or the villain being stupid.
I love the assumption that I haven't found enjoyment.. I wish for all of us that we enjoy the remaining episodes.
We’re just going in circles now.

We're discussing a 50 year old franchise. Do people expect to change minds?
If you stripped all of the "fan service" elements out (e.g., the displays inside the Daystrom Station, the museum, Moriarty, etc.), the story of the episode would remain essentially unchanged.Too much effort to call back to past Star Trek to the point that it distracted from a story which was hereto interesting - it felt like the story was servicing the callbacks, rather than the other way around.
References and links as part of a story are fine, and past episodes/seasons have had plenty which I've not been bothered by, but they took over this episode.
Wish I could send you some. Already done three trips to the store.I have an hankering for tortilla chips and I'm out.

Damn, me too! I'll load mine with salsa! You enjoy yours with rice and beans or however you're having them!I have an hankering for tortilla chips and I'm out.
For you, and some other posters. For myself and another group of posters, it did nothing of the sort. To each their own. One person's excessive "fanservice" is another's really enjoyable blast from the past. No one's right or wrong here.it felt like the story was servicing the callbacks, rather than the other way around.
However many times I read @El Maestro's post, I cannot find any such statement or implication. It's one thing to disagree with someone; it's another to put words in their mouth. (Or on their keyboard.I love the assumption that I haven't found enjoyment.
Well, if I misunderstood the below...However many times I read @El Maestro's post, I cannot find any such statement or implication. It's one thing to disagree with someone; it's another to put words in their mouth. (Or on their keyboard.)
...I apologize.Except there’s a contingent here that seems to suggest that the “fan service” is substandard and ruining the show, and keep mentioning it when others who do not feel that way are enjoying it, often dismissively and judgmentally. Like people are Trekking wrong.
