Maybe it's because of my watching it overnight, but I didn't notice anything on the displays -- including the Kirk thing -- until I read about it on here. I was paying attention to the characters and following the camera movements.

99% of the time, I ignore what's on computer displays.

If I can change the character of Scotty it could be more satisfying. Instead a TOS character is shoehorned in.

And what are we talking about instead? Not the story. Completely detracting.

Then I guess we have vastly different understandings of the theme(s) of Relics.

We are talking about it because you brought it up. I didn’t blink at any of those. They made sense.

Yes, bringing those up as examples of detracting from a story is preposterous.

Fair game? Sure.
Is this the route, they’re probably going to go? Yup.
Relevant to JLP? Not so much.
The Sisko and Picard had terse words at the beginning of DS9. As the Sisko was a scion of the Prophets, the Pah Wraiths determined that The Picard's child would be their own. Or something. I tried.

Not I. The fan service in "The Bounty" added nothing to the actual story. It was flipping through the pages of a year book and good "remember when".

This is is objectively wrong though. Encountering that ship moved the story along and allowed the characters to solve a problem. You might not like it. You might wish it was a different generic ship but that doesn’t mean it was pointless.

The needed the one ship, not an entire museum or top secret collection memorabilia .

I liked "Relics". And I'm sorry, but a guy from 1948 walking right into a workplace in 2023 and acting like he can pick up like it's the next day would be treated the same way. They'd be patient with him, but the patience can only go so far.
That only implies to Geordi and I can understand why he would be annoyed by him. I'm talking about everyone else.

The goalposts remain firmly were they were

Lol. Look, I’m coming off more aggressive than I need to, I’m sorry. I realize my preferences aren’t everyone’s. I would just like the criticisms to apply in a logical and consistent way. For example….last season of this show started pretty strongly and then became pretty dire. But fanservice wasn’t the problem. Plotting and characterization were.

What I don't like about the episode is that they all seem dismissive of Scotty. Didn't feel natural to me.
Spock wasn't treated much better in "Unification" - they made him seem like a naive dipshit who would have fallen into a trap without the TNG crew there to save the day.
