Fan service was great. The Seven Voyager/home monologue was great. The LaForge Family was great. Jack had some nice development. Sidney was fantastic. Budding romance there.

The heist part did not land for me. Putting an unstable AI in charge of defense makes no sense. But whatever. And they seemed to stroll through it. But the fan service stuff made up for it.

My pick of Riker being the one to bite the dust (of main cast) is looking good.

Data (LoreB4LalSoong), and Kirk returns push a 7-8 to a 9.

Picard's body has to be a Borg thing, yes? Are they gonna try to haveca Changleling turn into Picard & infiltrate/join the Borg as Locutus? Agnes to the rescue?

I kind of took the instability as a byproduct of the "access key" they used because right after they inserted it the system went catywompus.

Canon? Technically not, but Terry Matalas shared this on his Twitter feed and seems happy about it.

Does anyone treat Picard as a different person?

It seems only fans want to treat him as a clone of Picard.

I would say generally no, outside of a mention here or there that he's synthetic, but that doesn't mean he the same man that was on TNG, because he isn't. He died and his consciousness was placed in an artificial body (with even the neurological disease that hung over him now gone). Now that raises all kinds of religious, spiritual, ethical, and legal questions which unfortunately this series hasn't addressed. It's like the creators brushed Picard's new artificial life to the side, like they were embarrassed about it, until this week. Instead of wasting a season on a time travel story, the second season could've been about Picard's new lease on life and what that means to him personally, his friends, the synths, and other artificial lifeforms.

But as it stands, the man Geordi knew died, and a doppelganger stood in his place. Can we say that everything that made Jean-Luc the man he was actually got transferred over? And further, the 2399 recluse Picard that got the new synth body was still a shattered, hollowed out version of the man La Forge served with. Further, when you put a parent's children in danger takes it to another level, regardless of the bond the two men have.

In the Star Trek world, yes, 100% yes.

Further, when you put a parent's children in danger takes it to another level, regardless of the bond the two men have.
Which they both acknowledge in this episode. So, also good bonding and even *gasp* character development!

I know, I was just as shocked as everyone else.

Same thing happened to Spock in the movies, yet everyone treats him the same as before.

Fair point, but Spock's consciousness was held by McCoy, a trusted friend/Starfleet officer who could vouch for him. Further, Spock's consciousness wasn't placed in an artificial body that minutes before had been outlawed in the Federation, and further, came from a group that was planning to wipe out the galaxy.

Regarding Spock, while I understand due to the storytelling limitations of the movies, it was a missed opportunity to explore differences. We saw there were personality differences between the Rikers after all.

What does it benefit anyone to lie about who Picard is? :vulcan:

As far as Trek fan hair splitting goes this probably the finest example I've seen in a while. And that's saying something.

Still wasn't his original body technically.

And his consciousness was a copy. If it was a transfer, Spock would have fell over dead after giving it to McCoy.

The hosts of TrekYards, probably the most nitpicky fans on the Internet don't even have an issue believing it's the same Picard.

They'd have President Archer's body, but it was never found, and rumors persist to this day that he lives in the far future leading a Temporal War as a future guy.

Well....about that. Supposedly, after Moriarty fires at them, another display is supposed to say Archer, Jonathan with his remains. (I saw this on a Youtube Easter Egg video, but not the one that has 103 eggs.
There's a still frame but I couldn't make it out.
But....
They guy who is reporting this supposedly has seen the entire season already.

Didn't someone say they saw the more clear screen grab and it was "Android Body" or something like that?

That might be me. A friend took a closer look at that screengrab and it apparently referes to the "Arretan Android" seen in deleted footage from "Return to Tomorrow(TOS)," the android body that Sargon and his cohorts are working on in order to place their consciousnesses into them.
