Riker just wanted to get the fuck back to Federation Space is the simplest answer.

Plus he's not one for shooting a helpless opponent in the back, which effectively is what this would have been.

Besides, once the Titan got to warp, the Shrike would have lost track of them, now that the changeling has been taken out.

On a completely unrelated matter, I'm not sure it makes a ton of sense for Jack to have been one of the kids listening to Picard's speech 5 years ago. Why would he show his face in public like that? I had been given to understand that he and Beverly had been on the run for most of his life...

IIRC, there is precedent of ships being able to follow other's warp signatures - the Vengeance vs Enterprise in STID, for example. I thought there were other instances in Voyager as well, but can't remember specifics. If they do get away, they are not necessarily safe.

Yeah, the 'danger' of being Picard's son was so overwhelming, the only place to hide was a bar on Earth sitting at a barstool a table away. Such immense, incalculable danger to Jack.

That so-called "rule" has been broken many times since TUC. So I'm leaning towards "it never existed".

Side note: what's this about marital troubles between Riker and Troi? They seemed fairly tight in "Nepenthe" in S1. And Thad has been dead for some time. So why is it only NOW that they're at loggerheads?

Because grief is not linear.

Because they had a guest and put on a brave face.

They had a daughter and put on a brave face.

Riker's leaving to save Picard at the end of Season 1 tore open old wounds.

Lots of reasons.

But it’s said in the episode that they had occasional run ins with people while out on the frontiers (because it’s basically the Wild West) but they’d only started being pursued wherever they went a couple of months ago.

Indeed, they even went to Starfleet for help at one point, only for the Changelings to already be there as well. Just how far have the Changelings infiltrated? They just happened to have agents on both of the ships that the Crushers have encountered.
