Despite what the propaganda of the day might suggest ("oh, look at me, I cuss all the time, therefore I'm better than you"), foul language doesn't always fit.
I agree. Time and place. I'm not dropping F-bombs at work. I'm not dropping F-bombs depending on where I am in certain places either. Picard dropped an F-bomb -- getting back to this episode -- in the holodeck in a recreation of a pub talking to his rough-and-tumble grown-up son.

It's not like he's going onto the bridge and saying, "Enough of this shit! Get the fuck off that fucking chair, Will, I'm taking over the center ass seat! I'm taking command, bitch! Hell yeah! Fire the mother-fucking photon torpedoes, LaForge! Yeah n____! That c___ Vadic's going down!!!!" If it was like that, then I'd be agreeing with all the people complaining.

(and wasn't there a TNG Ten Forward set hastily constructed or CGI'd for the series premiere?)
Mostly CGI…more expensive to film into for extended, complex scenes.

Also, as noted many times in regards to other similar episodes, shuttles have their own warp core and power yet no one in this episode or any other ever talks about the feasibility or implausibility of getting power from them.
the power that would gain them is probably negligible.

Where's that radioactive room that only showed up in Wrath of Khan and Into Darkness that magically restores power upon a crewmember sacrifice?
part of the warp system that has no relevance here.

Trek always had more stringent standards. Nick Meyer has reported getting a lot of criticism for the "No smoking" sign he has in Star Trek 2, back in 1982.
well, that was just stupid.

And I don't look down upon people who never swear.

It's a start. :)

Who here still wants a Tarantino directed Trek movie? Curious as to the overlap.

IIRC, Tarantino did say that he knows the rules he would need to operate under, if he did a trek film. So I'm not particulary worried that his Trek would have the non-stop swearing and violence that his other films tend to have. I'm sure he respects the franchise too much for that.

I mean, David Lynch got away with The Straight Story, didn't he? A movie which, unlike most of his others, actually had a coherent plot? So I'm inclined to give Tarantino the benefit of the doubt as well.

I want a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie... but I have to use a qualifier here. I would never take it seriously. I'd be treating it like an over-the-top joke and take it in that spirit.

I'd also do what whoever put this together did and use out-of-context clips stitched together from TOS to make something totally insane.

Here's the thing. So, holodecks use a combination of holograms, force fields, and probably replicators. We've seen all of those subcomponents run on the normal power source that is compatible with everything else. So, why would the holodeck need some bizarre power source that is incompatible with everything else when it uses the same technology as everything else?!

You don't need to be an expert on 25th century technology, just use logic!
We live in a world where processors manufacturers couldn’t agree on what endianess to use, causing countless bugs over the decades…
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endianness

…were a computer firmware can have drivers for a file system but the overlaying OS can find it completely unknown…

…Not to mention a certain country hanging on a clearly inferior and illogical measurement system, creating plenty of problems in unnecessary conversions…

…and you think that having two incompatible systems on a starship you know nothing about centuries from now is impossible?
