Spoilers Did Picard finally ''right the ship'' with Picard season 3?

Right, and Matalas is absolutely approaching this as his ode to Trek movies, so it makes sense.

FWIW, SNW is a well-lit show overall. I don't even find Discovery all that poorly lit in its later seasons. So it's hardly universal for modern Trek.

I could barely see the costumes I'm some scenes. It's gotten way to dark. Yeah the tus movies were darker than the tv show but at least there was enough light to make out details. Picard is the darkest lit of all shows.

Do not presume to speak for all Trek fans. Gatekeeping is not a good look.

Well yes. I did mean to say that 'All fans should be hyped for Picard S3," it's something we've been wanting for decades.

However, I recognize there may be a few that are not. I welcome reading their critiques of this season in the weeks to come : )

It makes the discussion more engaging.

This season promises to follow up on the post-Dominion War aftermath, the fates of multiple TNG characters... Many fans are looking forward to it anyway!

But one person's 10 course delicacy is another's thin gruel, so YMMV...

I'm just going to say No. Surely Trek's showrunners know the complaints about redoing Wrath of Khan repeatedly as in Nemesis and more glaringly Into Darkness. Yet here we are going beat by beat again, with yet another plotline ripped from WoK (won't spoil which as this isn't the episode thread). It's not even bringing much new to the table this time around so far, which at least the Beyond movie tried to do in the character of Edison/Krall.

Why would they?

TWOK is constantly praised as the best of Trek, and Into Darkness made a ton of money. What issues come from that are probably diminished in the face of the success of the films.

It's not supposed to.

But continuity wise I'm not that that strict. I allow for reasonable in universe explanations for apparent contradictions... which SNW and DISCOVERY don't allow for.

They absolutely allow for in-universe explanations for apparent contradictions, to the same extent that all prior shows allowed for in-universe explanations for apparent contradictions. Right off the bat, I've been speculating for a while that the Enterprise might undergo a refit before embarking on Kirk's five-year mission that will bring its appearance in line with TOS. Klingons look different? ENT already gave us a plot device to rationalize that -- the DIS Klingons are just another off-shoot created by the Augment Virus. Maybe they all caught the Omnicron variant of the Augment Virus. ;)

But aside from all that, until DISCOVERY and later SNW, no new series contradicted an entire other series.

Sure they did! ENT was a contradiction of almost everything that had been established about the 22nd Century. Starfleet pre-dates the Federation?? "But TNG established that Starfleet was founded when the Federation was!" There was an Enterprise before Kirk's?? "But DS9 'Trials and Tribble-ations' made it clear there was no starship Enterprise before Kirk's, and so did the Enterprise-D observation lounge wall!" They have transporters?? "TNG established that transporters were invented in the early 23rd Century!" They've made first contact with the Klingons and Qo'noS is only a few days away?? "TUC established they made first contact with the Klingons in the early 23rd Century and it's supposed to be a lot further away than that!" Vulcans don't practice telepathy?? "But TOS made it clear mind melds were an ancient practice!"

There are, as ever, plot devices and new interpretations that can rationalize apparent continuity violations.

PICARD season 3 is supposed to be fully canonical. Yay!

Star Trek: Picard is fully canonical. So is Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Short Treks, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond.

I could barely see the costumes I'm some scenes. It's gotten way to dark. Yeah the tus movies were darker than the tv show but at least there was enough light to make out details. Picard is the darkest lit of all shows.

I re-watched "The Next Generation" a few days ago and changed my mind: the Titan bridge is too dark.

It's still early in the game, but I'm hoping this will be the best-received modern season of Trek.

All the right elements are there. Just depends how it ultimately plays out.
