Early Review of Picard Season 3

This has some very minor spoilers. I know some of folks in this video will be controversial, but it contains a review from some one who has seen the whole season 3 times. It sounds a whole lot better then the first two seasons, my excitement level for the season just exploded.

Side note learned some things about SNW season 1 as well, how it achieved it's status as the best season first season of Star Trek in shall we say a less honorable way (not giving enough credit to major inspirations). But the video is still 90% about the review of Picard Season 3.

Good listen.

I agree with him on Discovery. Four seasons in and I know nothing about the bridge crew; who they are, what their ranks are, what they do on the ship, etc. And the amount of time they spend crying and analyzing their feelings before getting the job done. Discovery is canon, and I acknowledge its place in the franchise and its continuity, but it isn't Star Trek.

Disagree with him on a lot of what he says about Strange New Worlds, but to each their own.

I'm really looking forward to Season 3 and this video makes me even more excited.

I'm not sure about how accurate the behind the scenes info in that review is. Robert said that the story for season 2 was pretty much decided when Matalsa came on board, but Matalas has said the time travel plot and the idea to have Q be part of the story were his ideas. He was also announced as co-showrunner in January 2020 before season 1 even premiered.

Controversial, yeah. The guy top right is one of the berserkers leading the charge on the homophobic "agenda" rubbish after the third episode of The Last of Us. Fuck The Critical Drinker as well - I genuinely thought he was a bit more discerning than the gang of shock jocks he surrounds himself with, but for my money - he exposed his bigot card after TLOU episode 3 as well.

Nice to see RMB in such like-minded company.

Then you might try watching it. Everyone is named (take that, TOS), even have had roll-calls on the bridge. All their job duties are pretty well defined. We know their relationships, their hobbies, the back grounds. We've seen them have parties. We know at least as much about this bridge crew as we have other series.

People have this weird dissociative state they go into when not liking Discovery where they regurgitate every incorrect point made about it for the next eager open beak. It's fine not to like it, but at least be honest.

This is their entry point into New Trek. If they're open to this, it'll open them to possibly being more receptive to other stuff.

I've been where they are at. Specifically, I was there when Discovery started. I wasn't really a fan of any of the Star Trek made in the two decades prior to that. Except I wasn't bitter, I was still in my 30s at the time, and technically I'm not white. :p

I'm pragmatic when it comes to this. They know where I stand with DSC. I don't have to remind them. So I'll roll with it. For now. It doesn't hurt to have them on our side when the Usual Suspects start tearing PIC Season 3 apart for no valid reason and try to be as loud and obnoxious about it as possible.

I'm still technically in my 30s, but I use really old sounding words like "tutelage" so maybe I hit middle age early on. I am white, but surprisingly not bitter, I don't fear any group of people, and I think Star Trek has always been left leaning so the fears around whatever agenda fly right over my head. I haven't liked all of Trek, and TNG never really worked perfectly for me, nor did VOY or ENT, Wasn't until Abrams where I went "Yes, I like this Trek."

Color me 2 out 4, white and male...is that bad?

Honestly, the garbage calibre of people pushing Picard season 3 as the best thing ever is really worrying.

Bitter, middle aged white men? Your Star Trek is back!

I've had some concerns in that direction as well. But Jessie Gender got screeners for the first six eps and has had only good things to say so far. I don't always agree with Jessie on nitpicks and minutia, but I consider her a better gauge on whether or not I'm going to enjoy a Trek show than the lot in question.

There's nothing wrong with being a white guy. It's not what you are that matters, but who you are.

That's whose opinion I'm more interested in, personally.

I'm also interested in Steve Shives' take. He didn't like PIC Season 2. I don't feel as strongly about it as he did, but I do think PIC Season 2 was the weakest season of New Trek.

Too liberal for some conservatives and too conservative for most liberals ;)

I think DSC has become the proverbial punching bag for and represents all that is disliked about Newer Trek, whether accurate or not.

Haha yes, the YouTube chat that spawned the joke that Robert Meyer Burnett is the bridge between John Campea and The Critical Drinker. At least you guys have the clip to directly refer to, and not the full stream with one particularly annoying YouTuber.

The Critical Drinker has 1.6 million subs. His video on why he was done with Star Trek Picard has like 1.3 million views. And the Drinker has been open about liking Star Wars Andor, so he isn't a hate everything for the sake of hating everything ideologue. Next to Red Letter Media, he's probably the largest YouTube presence that includes Star Trek related content. If PICARD season 3 is that awesome, why not have good publicity? And why not try and appeal to the larger fanbase?

I don't understand what value these youtubers add to anyone's experience with the show.
