Freeman: He's not even Starfleet!

I mean, he's a Junior Lieutenant in the ass end of space.
This guy clearly couldn't hack it at Starbase 80.
All the more reason he should be accurate in his depiction of the events... because when a UFP asset that far out ends up destroying itself, the UFP loses long range communications in that sector of space.
Sure it may be in the middle of nowhere but its also somewhat important piece of real estate.
I don't recall him mentioning serving on SB 80.
And if he couldn't make it there, why would SF put him on a relay station at the far edge of UFP space? Doesn't that seem like a promotion?
SB 80 (at least as depicted in Lower Decks) seemed extremely messy (and I never understood this given the fact its a freaking STARBASE - that means technology, high levels of automation - and yet, the way it was depicted you'd think it was a sludge pit of bodily excraments).
I swear these kids are just causing more trouble for themselves. If they had just told the truth to the Dauntless personnel when they were on the Ice planet about the Protostar, they wouldn't be in the mess they were in.
I am disappointed in what Murf metamorphosed into. I looked forward to seeing a winged Murf. A humanoid looking Murf is mundane.
I'm really torn on this episode, because I thought it was pretty successful in isolation as an entertaining and fast-paced episode of TV. However, I really, really hate what it means for the remainder of the season arc.
But the episode - and the entire plot of the season - now rest on a series of contrivances which largely come down to no one being able to communicate properly.
Look, I get it. They want Vice-Admiral Janeway to be the antagonist for the back half of Season 1, and since she's good, and the kids are good, there had to be some scenario that would stop the kids from actually explaining what was going on. But having them to meet face-to-face with six episodes yet to come...and faceplant so badly...is just a letdown. I suppose we're meant to be disappointed like the kids are, but I'm more just left wondering why they're all absolute morons...which isn't something I should feel for the protagonists of a show.
Yeah, Romulans popping up in so close to discourage the Dauntless from entering the Zone means that the Romulans have already crossed the Zone...the Neutral Zone thing works both ways, guys.
My memory of that episode is not the best. Thanks for clearing it up.
That means the accident happened at any point between 2365 and 2381.
Do we actually know that for sure?
This could be like that whole Federation can't develop cloaking devices but anyone else is free to thing. Maybe the Romulans are allowed to enter the Neutral Zone but the Federation isn't.
You're right, I confused Red Squad & Nova Squad.I suspect you're referring to Nova Squad, from The First Duty?
I concur, he needs to be punished for telling Klingon sized Half-Truths.I sincerely hope she doesn't go easy on Frex.
Accurate depiction (as much as poossible) of events is needed to get a clear picture, and Frex behaved incredibly irresponsible here.
He also failed to note that the kids were also acting as surprised as he did when the station was tearing itself apart and Pog asked him 'you think we did this?'... he conveniently left that bit out.
i don’t think they are going there but it would be interesting if the did.I'm calling it now, the Protostar and experiments with it are what is going to destroy the Romulan sun.
I believe that in Picard they keep it deliberately vague by calling it the “romulan star”, not “Romulus”.But originally, it was the Hobus star that went nova... not the Romulus star - which was later on retconned to say it was the Romulus star

Sorry, allow me to clarify, my post is saying that the reason he's a Junior Lieutenant not even on the worst space station in the Federation is because clearly he's a TERRIBLE officer. Being assigned alone to an automated outpost seems to imply he's not even fit for waste management.
I wouldn't go that far.
Maybe he was assigned to a deep space relay station for other reasons... and if he was a terrible officer, would he be given a promotion to Lt. Jr. Grade in the first place?
I suppose it depends if you think there's some genuinely incompetent and awful personalities in Starfleet or not.
Outside of Admirals.
Kirk became a moron for movies 1 and much of 2 once he was one.
The Protostar isn’t a warship, Janeway points out that’s a science vessel, the implication being that’s not heavily armed.A bunch of children piloting a Starfleet warship is, by itself, something
still, they have a more open side of their society, even if it’s only underground, as we discover in Unification II.Eh, the Romulan government is a racist totalitarian dictatorship so let's not try to give them too much slack. One of Star Trek's few flaws is the fact that they rely overly on the idea that there's no such thing as evil people and we're all just misunderstood good guys at heart when, no, there are people for whom the cruelty and xenophobia is the point.
it seems this is still in the future. One things @Christopher pointed out was the Romulan government should be letting Federation ships through, though, in order to evacuate Romulus.

I don’t think they are still using those machines: they haven’t shown up since TOS, not even when a very paranoid inquisitor has been in charge, such as admiral Satie.I wonder just how much longer will Frex remain in the limelight though. Maybe Admiral Janeway will more thoroughly question him and put him under an A.R.A machine (like Adm. Cornwall did with Spock over 100 years before)
We do if we watched TOS.Do we actually know that for sure?
