Uh, I think from the first classic series it's clear that assignments on certain ships are more coveted and prestigious than others. Of course, we can say that everyone does an important job, but it is clear that it is absolutely not indifferent on which ship you are assigned. Otherwise why would you want a transfer if everything is the same?

or the other unnamed were destroyed or lost by whatever reasons.

Since we saw Calis in the NCC-12xxx range and the design looks like a contemporary of the Ambassador-class, I think it's safe to assume that quite a few were destroyed/decommissioned since the 2340s. Two (Solvang & Rubidoux) were destroyed in just one year.

Can't believe the season is already coming to an end. While I have enjoyed the episodes this season, it just doesn't feel like a lot was accomplished.
Man I didn't even pay attention and didn't even know this the season finale haha...no wonder it was one of the funnier and better episodes

Considering the Aledo almost knew all the weak points of a starbase, the first few phaser shots could have taken out most of its weapons.

Like in TWOK, Khan hit the Enterprise exactly where it would cripple them quickly because he studied the tech manuals long ago. A rogue A.I. can easily do that on a larger scale.

Yes, but the Aledo didn't sabotage the starbase... it opened fire initially to vaporize Buenamigo quarters (part of the station which - lets be fair - did NOT contain the shield generators)... immediately when that happened, starbase shields should have gone up automatically... which should have helped against the Aledo for a while.

If DS9 (an over 50 year old ore processing station) could have been modified by SF into a full fledged starbase with ridiculous amount of weapons and powerful shielding capable of fending off over 50 ships with modern technology, then it stands to reason a pre-existing starbase should already have similar systems in place and the Aledo (despite being brand new and powerful), shouldn't be able to go up against a starbase on its own... even with 2 other Texas class ships at its disposal, it should have had issues with a freaking starbase.

Shields going up automatically at potential danger or new contact isn't a new thing for SF ships... it just seems that it was conveniently left out here.

Plus, why were Sovereign ship shields penetrated so quickly? I can understand the Texas class being lets say similarly overpowered like the Defiant with latest tech for the era, but going up against a Sovereign class? A bit too quick of a shield penetration if you ask me.

But I did like the Aledo torpedoes. They don't seem to be either Photon or Quantum torpedoes to boot... they seem to be something else entirely... and firing in clusters... packed quite a punch.
Makes me wonder why these things aren't part of regular defenses.

What surprised me regarding this episode was how emotionally poignant the episode's final act was. The assembly of a flotilla of Cali-class ships was the perfect reinforcement of a core theme of the show...the magic of friendship. Mariner's return, even Shax's ejection of the warp core, which was somehow both funny and bittersweet. I legit got weepy eyed at the end of the episode, which means mission accomplished.

I started getting a little misty eyed when all the Cali class ships turned up. I think it was Mariner's return and Shax hugging Boimler that tipped me over the edge.

Just a wonderful episode of Lower Decks and a wonderful episode of Star Trek full stop. Glad to see how it all slotted together, Rutherford, the Admiral, even Badgy!

Can't give it anything but a 10!

I never said the Aledo sabotaged the starbase. I said it likely knows all the weaks points of one to do the most damage in its first shot. Like what Khan did in TWOK, or how Weyoun told Odo how to destroy a Jem'Hadar warship with a single phaser shot with a runabout.

Never underestimate knowledge of inner workings and a single ship.

Again, that doesn't track.
In the future trek is supposed to be, being at the top or bottom shouldn't really exist.
You get different mission profiles sure, but as we saw, personell from Cali class ships can be promoted to other ships that do high profile missions.

It doesn't make sense that SF and UFP would discriminate against a whole design class and it's crew because of the mission profiles they do, because that kind of behaviour should have been left behind in the past.

Like I said, LD took liberties in how SF behaves, and I don't like the precedent it sets.

Also having people thinking 'there will always be people on the top and bottom ' is nonsense. That's a product of existing socioeconomic system...one that doesn't exist in Trek (so the conditions to manifest the same behaviour wouldn't occur), but I guess this is something that people tend to ignore.

That’s always been nonsense, as far as I can tell. There is the ideal and then there is how people really live and act. Human (or humanoid) nature wouldn’t change with all the technology and different government systems. Starfleet and The Federation as it is shown has money, war, revenge, corruption, intrigue, murder, prisons, love triangles, political tensions, tabloid journalists religious conflict, crappy jobs and competition, including in the original series. It might have less of the bad stuff. My best guess for the money thing is that everyone has guaranteed education, health care, shelter, travel, etc., but some people like Picard are more equal than others. The other reason they all live so nicely is that Section 31 is always slithering about in the shadows doing the dirty work that lets them maintan the bright, shiny facade.

my personal head canon is now that Starfleet didn’t entirely scrap the Texas class, just got rid of the AI components, upscale the frame for crew space and facilities with appropriate design modifications and called it the Inquiry class.
They don’t look identical, of course, but share a certain spirit in design.

I think someone said there were some unarmed Cali ships at the fleet. Id have to count them all and compare that number to what Boimler listed off

I'd say that LD stuck their S3 finale landing! A solid 9/10

This one half hour episode of animation really helps to explain why the Federation went with an A.I. ban almost more than all of PIC S1.

Pluses: More Sovereign class! T'Lynn! All of the Cali Class starships banding together to save their sister from a bully! Resolution of Rutherford's memory arc. Shax getting to eject the warp core! Boimler growing more of a spine when under stress. Rutherford and Tendi got cool moments too. All of our primary LD officers are developing good bridge officer characteristics and that's nice to see. I'd say that even the Badmiral was handled well. Badgey!

Minuses: The Texas class is Scimitar level over powered. They took out a starbase and Sovereign class in about 30 seconds. Starfleet General Order #2, after being burned how many times over the years, should be no more independent A.I.s. Ever again. Shax being super emo all of the time now.

makes sense to me: if the romulans have scimitar-type vessels Starfleet better have something that can face them. Keep in mind that the sovereign class is around a decade old now.

If the Texas builds on the sheer firepower of the Defiant from about a decade earlier then it can inflict a lot of damage in a short amount of time with the added advantage of no crew needed to pilot the class or fire its weapons systems. The Defiant was designed to defeat the Borg but the Texas might be designed to defeat, say, a Dominion capital warship or its equivalent. The Dominion War taught Starfleet a lot of hard lessons.

Wouldn't a Starfleet vessel know how to defeat a Starfleet vessel?

Great end to the season! It tied up a lot of the loose ends from last week. Mariner and Freeman's conversation where they sorted their problems out, was lovely. I smiled so much it hurt. :D

If the Cali class is looked down on so much by Starfleet, then how are the Miranda class regarded? I’ll be honest, I was kind of hoping they’d retire the Cali class and replace them with slightly newer vessels.

I loved Dr. Cats "I didn't spend 7 years on an Oberth" comment. Great call back to another"lesser" ship.
Also another great call back to riding crops.
