Maybe I belong here, as the differences between the TOS version and SNW version are obvious.
Well it kinda is but they act like it isn't and cross over the new and old versions of everything willy-nilly like it isn't.BTW, I just finished watching the first episode of SNW with my gf, who is a Trek fan but not as hardcore as I am, although she did grow up with TOS like I did. When the episode finished, she asked, “So is this some kind of reboot?”![]()

But Pike's bedroom is bonkers huge now. Chris Chapel is an entirely different person (which nothing short of a massive untreated breakdown would make her the TOS version) and so on.It's a creative reboot (in the sense that it's taking the basic concept of TOS and doing a modern version of it) but not a continuity reboot (because it is set in the same continuity as TOS).
I see the differences and it makes no difference to me. Call it a reboot, alternate universe, reimagining or whatever the heck you want. Is it entertaining? Does it exist in the world of Trek? Yes for both for me.
A ship is a ship. It requires nothing more than to fly around. And, if the age old chestnut of "Well, the Enterprise is a character!" then the recasting thing is next on my list. If Saavik can look like Kristie Alley and Robin Curtis, or if David Warner can play two different characters in back to back films, then somehow, strangely, my suspension of disbelief continues on that these stories are being told about the same crewmembers, just with different production values. Like if I go and watch Shakespeare at my local community theater and then go to Broadway. I don't go, "Oh, that's the wrong Denmark."

Lots of suspension of disbelief is required.
I'm really curious how the Lower Decks crossover is going to play out, since it's a show that obsesses about TOS and minutae. Probably just a "it looks different from on the holodeck!" type remark, or Voyager-style "holographic imaging technology was less accurate back then" (to explain Sulu being a decade older in Voyager than STVI), but we'll see.
I wouldn't have done it that way either. Doesn't change my view.It makes no difference to me either, in the large scheme of things. They’re making SNW. It looks nice. I’m going to watch it. But it simply doesn’t look like what I would have done had I been given the job of making a show in the year 2022 that’s supposed to take place in the same universe as a show produced in 1966. That’s all. I get that they had to build upon what was done in the first two seasons of DSC (which looked and felt even less like TOS than SNW does.) I simply would have stated that these shows are a reboot. Whether the ‘casual viewing audience’ cares about that minutiae or not, is irrelevant to me. It’s simply what I would have done. The producers of DSC and SNW didn’t go that route. And I’m still watching their shows (or at least SNW…I stopped watching DSC after the third season.)

Though, I'm done watching SNW or DSC so I guess you win.![]()
Humor...it is a difficult concept.I haven’t won anything, because this wasn’t any kind of contest.
She barely had character in TOS.Chris Chapel is an entirely different person

I think that @fireproof78 , @Dukhat , @Sci and @F. King Daniel would have made a good creative team on a Star Trek series but they would have needed @Danja to show run. Can’t you all crowd fund something for Netflix?![]()

The first thing I thought of when I saw Chapel was…Agnes Jurati. The actress and her mannerisms evoke Jurati far more than Chapel.
Granted my impression of Chapel coming off like Jurati was from the first episode only.
Ah. Say no more.
Granted my impression of Chapel coming off like Jurati was from the first episode only. But her look and mannerisms immediately reminded me of PIC season 2 Jurati. And it certainly did NOT remind me of TOS Chapel.
