Would it be cool to see young versions of Scotty, Chekov and Sulu appear on Strange New Worlds?

So...not Chekov?

Well Chekov is one of my three most hated Star Trek characters.
But you can't have a caricature like him on TV anymore, unless it's a comedy show/parody.
Plus...let's look at it this way is SNW's Chapel the simpering cardboard cutout she was in TOS?(no offense to Majel Barret, apparently she wasn't thrilled with the character either and I loved her as Lwaxana, most of the time)
No, she's a much more complex character, so hopefully the same would be true of Chekov if he appears.
Though again.. wouldn't he be 12 or something?

Chekov would be about 15 years old as of SNW. So I guess I can see him turning up, preparing to take his academy entrance exam or something like that.

The Implication in Catspaw was that, at 21-22, he wasn't completely green, but there's no evidence that he was the kind of prodigy his older brother was in JJ Trek or that he attended the academy particularly early. Based on the stardate, Catspaw took place before Space Seed, so Chekov might have been 20-21 when he graduated. So, if he does show up, I hope it is late on in the series.

We know Sam Kirk leaves Starfleet at some point soon. I think I'd prefer to see a young astrophysicist, Ensign Sulu, replacing him in the cast but he'd be barely older than Uhura, so maybe not just yet.

Her language abilities no longer match at all with the "translation" scene in VI:TUC.
That was a terrible thing with respect to her character; and even Nichelle Nichols objected to it. The director and script writer wanted it because it was one of the few humorous scenes they felt they had in the film.

I have no problem wholesale jettisoning that scene from Star Trek xanon myself. The fact they somehow brought a bunch of printed books to the bridge instead of just bringing the translation up on one of the various computer monitors is also a really stupid aspect of that scene.

I think an "astrophysicist" comes under the science officer blanket. And while I didn't quote it I was responding to Pauln6's comment
Yes, I would assume that all pilots and navigators will be trained in astrophysics and astronomy. We've also seen blue shirts and redshirts doing stints at the helm.

True, usually in early season one. I tend to think Sulu was on the helm track from the word go. Astrophysics is just "pilot weirdness". Or he's Walter, Hikaru's cousin. ;)
