can we all just agree that MSTies are better than Trekkers, Star Wars fans and Browncoats?

You mean the fans of a show where they ridicule and make fun of other people's work ..?

Jar Jar Binks actor seriously considered suicide. I don't really remember Kate Mulgrew or Sonequa Martin-Green ever saying something like that. I don't know why do you insist in affirming that the two fandoms are virtually identical in their nastiness.

Star Wars is more famous and known than that of two Trek spin-offs that many people don't even know exist or barely know exist. Star Wars is a bigger deal in terms of franchise size and The Phantom Menace was Star Wars returning after 20 something years. People had been literally waiting decades to see new Star Wars and then they are given this terrible off putting character. Add that to the fact the actor's face is hidden and it's easy to see how fans could attack someone without understanding the impact of their hatred.

The reason why so many of these fans are so mean IMO is the reason why so many people are so mean on the internet and social media. They don't fully understand the psychological impact their words have on people. Many of these people who call out toxic fans will then turn around and go on Twitter or wherever and start shitting on this and that person for this and that reason not even realizing their are basically doing the same thing they are complaining about others doing.

People often do say toxic things to others not fully understanding the impact of their words on others. Whether they are doing under the guise of being a fan or social justice warrior or because of Jesus wants it or to make the libs cry or whatever excuse they use it still comes down to people wanting to be mean because of ignorance of the impact on the people they are doing it to and because of the momentary good feels of laying into someone you don't like or something you didn't like.

I actually never watched an episode of MST3K so I read the Wiki page about it and, wow, they even made fun of what are usually considered good movies, like This Island Earth. But even if we talk only about "bad movies", I'm sure that some people who made them genuinely tried to make the best with the resources they had. I believe they knew they didn't make some immortal masterpiece but just some entertaining work of fiction. I think that making fun of them just for this is a little cruel. It's like deriding low income people because they live in a trailer and not in some fancy house. Indeed I read on the Wiki page that some of their "targets" weren't very happy of the whole thing.

Because I believe they are. No disrespect to Ahmed Best, but I don't think his response to toxic Star Wars fandom is a sign that the latter is worse than the Trek fandom. I believe Best's reaction was something that came from him. Just because he had reacted that way, does not mean Kate Mulgrew, Sonequa Martin-Green or any other important actress who faced bashing was going to automatically react in the same way.

My opinion about the Star Wars and Trek fandoms came from years of observing not only both fandoms, but also of fandoms for franchises like "Lost" or "Babylon 5".

Please point me to the Star Trek equivalent of the racist messages toward Moses Ingram, thank you.

By the way, your comments about Ahmed Best seem almost victim blaming: "It's not the Star Wars Fandom worst than Star Trek one, the problem is he is too soft".

I assume Kelly Marie Tran being bullied off of social media was also her fault, correct?

It's a very funny show, and not meant to be taken seriously.

Please don't point me to them: I still like Star Trek...

It isn't like the worst type of insult? "I was just kidding"? A way to put the blame on the offended person if s/he gets mad at the insult? And reading on the Wiki page not all the targets of their jokes were equally amused. I mean, the Japanese studio owner of the Gamera movies was very, very offended by the MST3K's treatment.

It's really really really really really not. To quote the theme song, repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax"...

Fans don't relax. They get offended if a show is too dark, to comedic, or if a prop looks too modern. Telling them to lighten up is almost certainly like telling them, "lighten up. It's only a joke "

The question you always have to ask is how many of these negative posts are coming from trolls and bots. At least in the old days if someone sat down and wrote a letter and actually took the time to put it in mailbox you know the chances are good the person is a real fan.

It's like I said. The entire internet has turned almost into a complete sewer. Everyone is pissed at everyone. People are getting meaner because they are being triggered and also because to much time online is just mentally unhealthy. The state of our falling society will reflect in fandoms just like all other walks of life.

I believe what he was saying, if it needs to be spelled out and @The Nth Doctor can correct me if I'm wrong, is that you said "No disrespect to Ahmed Best" and then proceeded to disrespect him by implying that his reaction to the hate was some form of personal failing, not that it was a disproportionate level of hate as compared to the others.
