Simon Pegg Calls Out 'Star Wars' For Having Most 'Toxic' Fandom—While Praising 'Star Trek' Fans

I believe what he was saying, if it needs to be spelled out and @The Nth Doctor can correct me if I'm wrong, is that you said "No disrespect to Ahmed Best" and then proceeded to disrespect him by implying that his reaction to the hate was some form of personal failing, not that it was a disproportionate level of hate as compared to the others.
Spot on.

Spot on my ass. I wasn't referring to Best's reaction to the bashing as "personal failing". I was trying to point out that just because Best had reacted to the bashing directed toward him in one way, doesn't mean that everyone else who had received heavy bashing would react the same way. And this is why I don't regard the Star Wars fandom's toxic behavior to be worse than the toxic behavior of Trek fans.

Except a lot of Star Wars fans keep treating people of color horribly. Best, Tran, and Ingram all received vile push back for just acting in Star Wars. So much so Tran left social media. This isn't just a one time issue.

And many Trek fans have been consistently toxic toward Mulgrew and Martin-Green and their shows, especially since they are the leads of their shows. Apparently, a female lead in a Trek show is not tolerated in this fandom. I have noticed this for years. And I've noticed that one of the reasons behind the hostility toward "Picard" was that many fans feared that female characters like Soji, Seven, Agnes and Raffi were overshadowing Picard. Even when that wasn't the case. If you want to pretend that this is not the case, go ahead. You'll probably do it anyway. But I cannot pretend that this sexist attitude is not prevalent within the Trek fandom.

So, your point is "It's not Star Wars fandom worst than Star Trek one, it's that every single Star Wars actor is a pussy and Star Trek ones are the real deal!".

Wow.

It's kind of weird to see some people try to hold a contest about what kind of abuse is worse. It's all bad.

(But to be clear, I'm not talking about just voicing negative opinions about someone from Trek or Wars on a message board. That is not remotely the same as actually accosting the person.)

No one's denying there's a toxic element to Star Trek fandom. But a very legitimate argument can be made that the toxic Star Wars fans can be much worse than the toxic Trek fans.

Wow.

That seems to be Simon Pegg's attitude.

I don't agree. I'm not defending the Star Wars fandom. But my opinion of the Star Trek fandom isn't any better.

Wow indeed. As in, wow, that's a comically hyperbolic misrepresentation of what Dee1981 wrote. If I were them, I'd report this post to the mods.

The Far Right chuds have successfully gaslit everybody in the past five or six years and pushing their agenda the most on YouTube, etc, distoring the image of Star Wars and Star Trek fandom (and the chuds are now even contaminating MCU and The Boys).

But they've always been around (see the amount of undue hate poured upon Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn in the early 2010s as a warning sign of what was to come five to ten years later).

I just can't get my head around fandoms using woke or whatever as a slur, like it's basically saying you're an asshole because you're openminded about story themes or casting/characters. I think Star Trek fans saying that would piss me off more because I feel like when you get past all the setting and characters and what story you're telling it's about a bunch of people who got past their shit and get along.

Woke is the new SJW. Apparently some consider social awareness to be even more shameful then a desire for social justice. Which pretty much tells you all you need to know about the mentality of such people.

YouTubers like Major Grin and mostly unfunny animators like FlashGitz have been among the most successful in indocrinating or exacerbating the worst of sci-fi and fantasy fandom in a plausible denialbility way with hindsight (with me briefly taken in a little and still have issues with the most unrealistic or shrill "SJWs").

But scum like Major Grin now seems similar to the Stonetoss cartoonist(s).

I loved Mad Max FURY ROAD better than LAST JEDI. Both have strong female characters but the former was better crafted to me…I never said much about LAST JEDI because I didn’t want to be lumped with folks like “grin” whoever the hell that is.

Leia should have been the one at the helm of the Raddus there at the last..with Laura Dern’s character surviving to carry on the new Rebellion.

I suspect the negativity directed toward Best and Tran was not actually about race per se but rather the lameness of their characters.
