Spoilers The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Discussion

Just realized Lt. Dan was totally missing from the final episode. I know he’s not a major character but he’s always been one of my favorite comedic characters on the show.

People, what do you think of the dress uniforms? :)

A hard hommage for what i consider the best Trek uniforms - Kirk era red uniforms ( just in white). They looked fantastic.

Loved the episode - Claire ripping Lamarr a new one, the command girls being girls and buzzed ( and making fun of Ed who takes it like a sport), nearly the whole Kaylon race attends the wedding ( they are really all in or nothing at all), Moclan relationship rituals are awesome and so Moclan, the entire wedding was amazing start to finish ending with Kelly and Ed holding hands ( i'm a hardcore shipper).

As you may know i was highly critical on this season in the beginning but they really turned it around - if it doesn't get renewed the crew leaves us in a very good place with a nice show finale but i really hope they get season 4 even if with a reduced budget.

Some observations:

- i'm not sure if it's just Bortas/Klyden or all Moclans but Bortas seems to be really dominating Klyden. To me it lookes like old style ( pre-1900s) earth male/female relationships where the man is in total control and the woman is completely subservient. Just seems a bit strange to to write them like that in Orville, which aims to be progressive

- really liked the exploration of Trek's Prime Directive. We've seen it in action quite a bit in Trek but never so fully and visually explored ( loss of 9 billion lives is quite a hard number to swallow). Really dug the reasoning and arguments for why it exists and why it has to be observed at all times.

- there's rumors that Scott Grimes has filmed a pilot for another series and may leave Orville produces a kind of mixed reaction from me. To be honest i don't consider him a good actor but his character has some charming element, especially when he sings like he did at the wedding. To be further honest i think Orville could do without him if there is a season 4.

Grimes is in the Ted prequel with MacFarlane at least.

Reminds me more of the TNG movie dress uniform but maybe that's just the colour.

Only just found out there is an EP. 10 as well. Watched 9 last night and it felt very end of season.

Excellent season, some of the best Trek out there even if Seth filed the serial numbers off first. Hope it gets another season, although it was left in a fine spot if that was the last we see if the crew. Moved from Hulu to Disney+, choosing to see that as a sign they want more eyeballs on it, which is good. Expensive, but seems like a good original franchise to put a few bucks into, and the Mouse is loaded…

Like most everyone else, I *really* hope the show gets renewed, but it was a lovely, fun, and funny finale. Alara showing up was a great surprise. Lamarr looked terrified of Claire (as he should!).

"You have been useful sober man, go away now."
Palecki's line delivery was utterly spot on in this episode! This line reminded me of something a friend of mine might say to her husband if he popped into a girls' night.

I really liked the discussions about how things work in the Union from not having money, to what motivates people to work, what people do for entertainment and the importance of the prime directive. It was nice to have a character that could ask the questions that the audience might ask like "why do you work if you don't get paid?".
RIGHT? Seth wrote this episode and I could tell he's thought long and hard about these issues.

Isaac wearing *just* a neck tie was *chef's kiss*
Yes! And the Kaylon stripper - and Claire dancing with him!

I liked them muchly. :) Very naval.

I think that's on purpose given the Moclans have been shown to have less-than-progressive ideals as a culture.

Bortas was every cringeworthy Guy Who Thinks He's Funny I've ever seen.

All in all, I'm happy. But I'll be happier if Disney renews the show!
