Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x10 - "A Moral Star, Part 2"

Apparently they are part of the same production block and weren't originally meant to be split up (we know for certain that season 4 of discovery wasn't intended to be split as well).

 

Nah... its still season 1... just the break is longer than usual (and there was initially a lot of confusion around how many episodes S1 will have... it wasn't until later that we learned that Season 1 will have 20 episodes and that the 'break' in the season is not a break between seasons - just a break to allow time for more episodes to be made - it IS a 3D animated series after all, and this takes a lot of rendering power).

 

Sorry, if this has been said before, didn't read the whole thread, but:
Calling it now, the malicious software bomb is hidden within Holo Janeway's matrix.
At some point the crew will have to make a decision to sacrifice her to get to Starfleet, or stay on the run.

 

Unless she makes the decision to sacrifice herself. Maybe she'll say "TIME'S UP" before she does.

 

That is something I hadn't thought of, but seems very possible.
Although, the software was alluded to be elsewhere in the ship... not Janeway's holomatrix... because the thing seems to proliferate to other SF ships by simply transmitting itself via communications (for which, the Janeway holo doesn't need to be active - she just happens to be active most of the time because these kids don't really know how to fully control the Protostar).

 

That's an intriguing idea, and very possible since the Janeway hologram was also infected when the Diviner first took over the ship.

However, while a computer virus of some kind is the most likely option for the weapon, perhaps there are other possibilities still.

The Diviner says to Gwyn that the weapon must be armed (so it may not be active yet, even if a Starfleet ship would come near or make contact). He also says the weapon will "release a signal", that will corrupt Starfleet systems. He doesn't explictly say that this signal will corrupt the AI/computer of those ships (though this is the most likely), for all we know it could infect the crew(s) instead.
He also insisted for Gwyn to be onboard the ship, with him. And we have seen that the Diviner and Gwyn can send wireless signals, to their multitools/weapon and to each other. Does it remain a possibility, if remote, that Gwyn herself is supposedly the weapon?

Another suggestion I've heard is that he may attempt to take out/corrupt the universal translator, which would the theme but is unlikely to result in Starfleet ships firing on each other en masse.

 

Maybe they can do the TRON thing and have Janeway fight the virus on the computer's home turf.

 

I don't know if anyone as mentioned this before.

Is it possible that Gwyn rmembers what her father said about planting a virus in the Protostar but isn't saying anything about ti?

It is true that after hearing about it Gwyn saw a faint refelction of Zero's image and had her mind messed up, since looking an Medusan drives humanoids crazy.. But neither that or her psychiatric treatment since then is guaranteed to have made Gwyn forget about the virus. According to the evidence in the episode it seems impossible to tell whether Gwyn remembers or forgot about the virus.

Why wouldn't Gwyn say anthing about the virus if she remembers? When she heard about it, she protested that it was an evil plan.

I don't have any theory why Gwyn might decided not to warn the others about the virus.

But I have noticed people - presumably including Vau N'akat - can have very complicated psychologies. And gettign a reflected glimpse of Zero strongly affected her mind.. Teh last glimse of Gwyn indicated to me she was not yet fully back to her old self, if she will ever be.

 

Gwyn did seem somewhat subdued and looked far more vulnerable at the end, but she is probably still recovering. Her reaction to the Virus was clear though, "we can't go" is what she kept repeating.

it was mentioned that admiral Janeway in the Dauntless would pursue the Protostar as a sympathetic (half) antagonist, kind of like in The Fugitive. The implication is that the kids will learn about the Diviner's weapon in time to try to avoid contact with any Starfleet ship for the time being. One possibility for that is Gwyn remembering and telling the others, though they could also find Chakotay or retrieve this info from holodeck recording if available.

 

I really enjoyed it. Even Dal, who initially made me quit for a while, was much less irritating. (And I liked him using his pony-tentacle to hold a tool!)

My one gripe is the implied ret-con that Rok and Pog will be switching jobs. The grungy piganoid mechanic with the old-school robot arm made fir a very fun Chief Engineer. Rok as Engineer just sounds like Dora the Explorer talking about a science fair project. Pog as Security Chief isn't very interesting either; just Cyborg from "Teen Titans" again. I really hope they aren't going through with this switch.

 

I thought Rok was science officer, because of the scientific and technical coursesxshe took in "Time Amok".

 

I really, really hope you're right. But the scene where she and Pog switch places at the door and fixing the core has me dreading an upcoming season of Pig-Cyborg and Chief Engineer Dora.

 

Good resolution, and yet one that spawns another cliffhanger.

Interesting, seeing a Medusan intentionally driving somebody insane. (Although on reflection, I'd say that was rather a short trip for "The Diviner.") And it would seem the cute felinoid has claws.
