Aside from the final ten minutes, this episode was rife with everything I'm not a fan of this show. The melodramas of Danny, Jimmy, and Larry all took heavy focuses in this episode and very little of it was enjoyable. Sure, I appreciated the parallels to Bill Clinton with Larry's affair and lying under oath, but I still didn't care. Nor did I like the show taking a page from House of Cards with Ellen just "nonchalantly" visiting Pam at the drop of a hat. Ugh.

The only thing of interest prior to the climax was Aleida's continued hunt for the mole (and I loved the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy name drop!) with her finally realizing the horrible truth. The question now is what will she do? She's going to need real concrete proof to go against Margo and who exactly does she go to with it? I do wonder if she'll confront Margo, just as Margo initially thought was going to do in this episode, or will she decide that won't be a good idea. Either way, as I said before, this is going to break her heart.

And then there's that climax. Going in, I thought the drama was going to be limited to Kelly's reasonable concerns regarding microscopic life. But, of course, Danny's fuck shit of a life reared its ugly head yet again and not only caused the drilling accident and Ed's and Isabel's initial injuries, but also caused a major rock slide that has most likely killed at least Isabel, Nick, Grigory and several more.

The ironic part? Danny's addiction and direct role in the mining accident will undoubtedly be completely covered up from the public, contrary to what Jimmy and his pals are so convinced about Tracy and Gordo.

Lastly, as soon as Nick's animatronic dog showed up, I just knew Danny was going to destroy it. :wah:

The Jimmy Stevens storyline seems like a giant time-waster in the tradition of pointless 24 subplots that they use to pad the episodes. How did stealing a high security key card enable them to steal a statue that was outside to begin with?

Would be quite ironic/funny (depending on how dark your sense of humour is) if the underground aquifer was where the last remains of life on Mars was and the humans have just wiped them out.

If I was in Aleida's position, I would not have gone to Margo. I would have called the FBI field office in Houston, TX, with my concerns.

And in normal circumstances, that makes perfect sense.

But Margo is Aleida's mentor. She would not be where she is now if it had not been for Margo pushing her so hard to get there. Obviously she's going to be torn between her love for science, the need to protect NASA's assets, and her loyalty to Margo. That's a tough balance for her, even if she will ultimately go against Margo (as I fully expect) and it's going to tear her apart to do it.

I still like the show but the writing has been getting stupider every season, especially everything involving Danny. Ed knows that Danny's getting high...but leaves him on active duty? Nick walks away and leaves Danny in charge during a critical moment? Come on.

And how did Jimmy's friends manage to steal the statue? How would having Rossi's card mean they were able to remove a statue from NASA? It's pretty dumb!

Bad news, everyone on Mars dies except for Danny, and season 4 is about the adventures of Danny and Jimmy.

Watching this episode reminded me of some of the stupid moments of 24 throughout it's run. Danny is almost like the 2022 version of Kim, only probably dumber and he won't run into Cougers (Maybe). How the hell can you have this important scientific mission and keep a guy who threatened to hit the commander and went ape-shit on someone's toy dog in an important role. How can you have the guy who lost his toy dog then leave this guy unsupervised.

I'm starting to see some early Season 2 crawl back into this show. They are on Mars, yet it feels like they are on Earth with all this personal drama. This show should have a sense of wonder but it sacrifices it for soap opera drama or cliche affairs. I think my favorite storyline right now is Alaida's because Margo was almost a mother figure to her. This is a betrayal I hope they write really well because it has a chance to be the best thing about this season.

As for the Conspiracy Theorists storyline, why did they need a badge to steal a statue? I didn't understand that storyline at all, and this scene where Jimmy is reading the letter is supposed to mean something but it doesn't really mean anything yet. Hopefully it gets more interesting next week, or they drop it all together.

It's going to come out that they did something a lot more serious than stealing the statue.

Possibly he through that wasn't really much that dunny-boy couldn't screw up in the few minutes he took him to run the calculations (which I get the impression were required prior to penetration).

Ed had pretty much punted the shit to the lowest totem on the pole.

Think Ed's biggest mistake was not making sure that that all of danny's pills had been taken away and that he didn't have access to anymore.

Yeaaahhhh...that really bothered me. Ed specifically called out Danny's pill-popping behavior...and didn't bother to take those pills from him? That's some shitty leadership right there.

You complain about personal drama stories but Aleida vs. Margo ( sort of) is okay? Not very consistent. I dislike the Danny storyline too but human drama has been in the show makeup from the start, it shows what they all have to go through for the sake of the space program so i'm fine with it for the most part.

Conspiracy theorists are dumb, period. They're in their own little world, sniping at the big man behind the safety of their homes and patting each other after a particular "good shot" against the man - in short they're pathetic and this action only proves the point. In addition they're now criminals but i still wonder why this storyline even exists, i.e. what is their purpose?

Ed is blinded by his loyalty to Gordo and Stevens, simple as that. Only now, way after the fact, is he realizing that Danny has problems but he is still not there to completely write him off and bench him. Depending how this proceeds with the catastrophic event and he investigates it he might learn that Danny is ultimately responsible and then bench him, i.e. if they survive at all.
