For All Mankind Trailer - Apple TV- SPOILER

Gordo was at least redeemable. Danny is just turning into a trainwreck that is going to hurt a bunch of people. I worry about the angle of his brother and what future actions that might cause. Him getting involved with the anti-NASA group and conspiracy theorists can only lead to more problems. I could see a storyline where he does something rash if something happens to Danny.
All true.

...but to be fair, I absolutely loathed Gordo in the first season and I couldn't foresee a time that I grow to like the character to the point that he was believably redeemed. And yet he was.

Time will only tell with Danny but he is in a deeper hole than Gordo ever was.

I kinda assumed given the generational nature of the show and the fact they pretty much have to hand the astronaut reigns over to a younger group when they jump another decade into the future that Danny would be around for awhile, but who know. I could see something where Danny does something and Ed covers it up to protect the reputation of Danny/his best friends son, but which leads to 'conspiracy theories'

I'm all caught up. This was a great episode, even though I kinda wanted more of a connection between last weeks episode and the first step on Mars and this episode just kind of the marvel of being on a different planet. I thought Tyler captured that really well, which served as a nice seguay to his coming out story. I thought that was incredibly well handled and I was into it and seeing the various reactions all throughout. Danny has been so annoying for the last two seasons and I really wish Ed would know what he's been doing and give him a stern talking to or something. I really hate that character and everytime I see his face the show is brought down a little. As for Alaida and Margo, I've been liking Alaida this season a lot. She's taking charge, and I'm a little worried she will inadvertently bring down Margo.

I hate that I now have to wait a week for the next episode, but while there have been some slow and boring parts (Early season 2), I've been liking this series as the action ramps up. This season has done much better intertwining the space and the earthside storylines.

It would be an interesting parallel for Aleida to take down Margo since she did the same to her mentor Von Braun.

I have a terrible feeling that Will Tyler will not return to Earth.

But the really disappointing thing about this episode is Rolan's volatile reaction to Will's coming out. I figured right away that the odds were pretty high that there would be at least one homophobe in the joint America-Soviet mission and it breaks my heart that it's Rolan. Of course, it makes sense narratively that it would be someone we would care about it. Dani and Kelly would be impossible to believe and anyone else wouldn't be shocking or interesting enough (even Alexei). So it had to be Rolan. And that sucks. Which is the point.

It seemed like the show nudged us in the direction - at least in the end i really got concerned when he went out he'd commit suicide. It is not off the table though as it just started and they have 2 more years before they can go separate ways.

Rolan's homophobia to me is more like fear of contracting HIV, a disease that is not well known and researched at that time and it follows the same path it did in our reality, when we simply didn't know better and followed our prejudices and fears. Pure homophobia is of course represented in the Vice President and it was so sad to see Ellen exposed to it full on knowing she's homosexual too.

Also, who in their right mind, allowed an alcohol fueled party onboad a Mars base. All commanders should be heavily punished for allowing this, it carries so much risk that i don't know where to begin.

Yeah, that's been in the back of my mind all season. I think it'll break Aleida's heart a lot more than it did for Margo.

Whichever direction the season goes, that final shot of him on the Martian surface certainly was an ominous one. There several ways it could play out which make my prediction come true, for better or for worse (most likely the latter).

That's a fair point, but at the same time, much of the fear-based ignorance regarding HIV paranoia was rooted in homophobia. But you're right that Rolan's reaction is very different from the vice president and I'll be curious to see how both of those plot lines play out.

Yeeeeeaaahhhhh...that was a bad idea all around.

Someone’s gonna go full Outland, and maybe it’s Tyler, but I would strongly prefer it to be Danny.

Think we’re gonna lose Ed though, and that’s really *not* gonna be alright.

It should be his last season anyway, all the original actors are getting really old show wise and if they do another 10 year time jump between seasons they'd be retired anyway so if he dies at least it may serve the story.

At least among the astronauts. Treason aside, I could easily see Margo going for another decade or two. But she has to make way for Aleida who is the throughline for the whole show.

Have the producers indicated how long they want this show to last? They could either go for a long time and really get into the future, but that would mean this show would have one of those cast cycle things like ER, or it could end in a couple years with Ed and Danielle retiring. The only behind the scenes things I've seen on this show are some of the news clips to fill in the missing gaps each year and that science feature.

Moore has talked about it going for seven seasons and specifically mentioned Aleida as the focal character throughout the whole run.

See now, while I get disliking Gordo in season 1, at least he felt like an actual character, with some dimension and agency. He had *something* going on more than just being a general train-wreck of a human being.

Danny is just a one-note, one dimensional, one track cardboard cut out of a character that actively sucks enjoyment out of every scene he's in (nothing against the actor to be clear, he's doing his job, this is a writing thing.)
It's not that he's terrible (some of the best characters ever are terrible!) it's that he's boring and actively making everything around his scenes worse.

I think sometimes RDM just has really bad instincts for this kind of thing. I've often heard writers of all stripes claiming that "any strong emotional reaction you get out of an audience is a good thing", which is true enough to a point (if a little too flippant for it's own good) but I feel like some often forget that there's one fairly iron clad caveat to that; strong boredom is NEVER a good thing in one's audience! That's basically death for any story. Ask any kind of live performer and they'll tell you the thing they fear the most from an audience isn't boos, hisses, jeers, or even thrown missiles; it's indifferent silence. Crickets.

I don't hate Danny. I just don't care about Danny, which is a problem when he's taking up so much screen time. It's an annoyance, like an obnoxiously unskippable ad.

I often compare this to Game of Thrones which is well known for its array of awesome villains.

One could say that Joffrey is a one note villain, evil because he's just evil but over the course of the show we realize he's overcompensating for being a coward and weakling and when given power he used it to cover the fact that he's just a weak human being.

Cersei had her motives to get into power, her scheming sometimes worked and sometimes didn't ( Walk of Shame) but she also had humanizing traits, e.g. she loved her children.

Littlefinger was the best of them all - a master schemer and little fuck who's responsible for so much pain and devastation just because he wanted to climb the ladder.

None of this is even remotely present in Danny - he's just an asshole and that's it. He's not even an interesting asshole, it's just a blank slate out of a soap opera with no real character traits other than being an asshole. I can't wait until they write him out and give the screen time to far more interesting characters.

everything crumbles...

:censored: Danny Stevens
endangers the mission, the others and himself. Wonder how many he killed and what that means for the whole space program efforts of all of them.... and he seems to get away... and now poor injured Ed is stuck with him in a close confinement...

Njeeeeeeet
Was that Kelly's partner who got caught by the water/rock wave?!:weep:

Yay for
Ellen going to Pam - still shipping them :adore:, hope they have at least a heart to heart talk - would love to see them reunite and Ellen to come out on her terms

Margo
looses everything within 3-2-1, first Sergei, now her job she lives for. Should have come clean to Aleida or at least try to explain, not sure she was going to take it up with whomever she said prior

Wonder if by seasons end, that's it for the whole old(est) guard: Ed injuried, Larry/Ellen, Margo. Certainly shaping up this way

Drama is YMMV for a show like this, honestly. I expect more man vs tech stuff than man vs man, but the latter pads out stories more sometimes and the whole point of NASA and SovCosmos and whatever engineers is to prevent every mission going Apollo 13.... Then you get a sort of man vs nature set up, like the base dealing with more people than it was made to hold or a lack of fuel ISRU but hmmm...

Honestly I just watch the space scenes and leave it at that. Can't get into Gordo or Danny.
